Hyman is signed for a bit as well, and there are no aged veteran "depth" forwards left (I think).

Glad Marner is signed but oh lord the Toronto drama. Cannot even count how many pearl clutching baby boomers viciously wrote him off for his "greed" and how the team is going to resent him and the locker room is poison now. I feel like hockey is going to be so much better when this generation dies off. If the rest of civilization somehow survives. Also the pundits predicted a wave of RFA signings once Marner signed and I hope they're wrong and there is a lot more drama so lovely fans can stroke out on all the conjecture.

my friend there are people far younger than boomers in this very forum who were every bit as angry and dismissive

and yeah tronnah is gonna socre a whole mess of goals this year but they're gonna have to when the blue line and goaltending is ranging from a punchline to average at best

Did the Jets have to obtain copyrights for that from the Coyotes? I don't know how that kind of thing works.

Problem leafs will have is if one of those stars gets injured and they don't have depth down the lineup to makeup for it because they're basically spending all their money on a few players. I still think there's way too much talent on that team that they don't win a cup in the next 3 years though

I believe new Jets bought the licenses from Phoenix, yeah.

I don't get rule 8. Isn't basically every goalie who stops a rink-length shot just leaving it for a defenseman like 95% of the time anyway?

I'll gladly take delays if it means the call is right every time. Anything less is unacceptable. None of this call to make up for a call poo poo.

Lemme say it again, pucks & skates should have chips in them, and sensors in the blue and goal lines. Offsides called automatically by a faultless machine, goals are goals whether the camera sees it or not. Its so loving possible. Do it you stupid dinosaur league.

Machines are 100% never wrong and let's also make an already expensive as gently caress sport more expensive and less accessible, got it.

Holy gently caress I didn't say put it in every peewee rink across the country. At the NHL level, it should be developed and implemented immediately. gently caress incorrect calls.

Ask any soccer fan how VAR's working out for them. Machines aren't infallible and "just throw some sensors in the equipment" isn't nearly that simple.

E: hell you can keep it even in the states, ask football fans how taking an additional half hour in every game to challenge or overturn or review calls is working out.

You can improve things without immediately jumping to the "just throw some sensors in there and put robots everywhere" conclusion

Soccer is garbage and football has about 3 seconds of action spread among a bunch of guys walking around casually like loving recess at school so who cares if there are more delays in that? If the call is wrong, you completely undermine the entire game. Machine is going to be much much more reliable than a human. All the loving poo poo we have today and you dont think they can develop that? Not to mention you take the linesmen off the ice as well then so fewer pucks bouncing off them and impeding play that way as well.

You're all on the "no more delays" side until its your team getting screwed in the playoffs. And no I am not the mythical buffalo sabres fan previously only seen in Bruce Almighty.

It is understood the Avalanche are seeking a deal from six to eight years with an average annual value (AAV) in the range of $8.4 and $8.75 million, The Athletic has learned.

As for how far apart both sides are? It is also understood if Colorado — which possesses $15.615 million in salary-cap space — was looking to offer $8.5 million and Rantanen was seeking $9.5 million, then, it would be deemed viable. But if Rantanen’s camp were seeking $9.5 million over three years, then, it would be a nonstarter for the Avalanche.

The Flyers are already well fuckin' known for slow starts to both the season and basically every game in the last 6 years, so it isn't too strange to me that they want more time with the known NHLers to get AV's system, and them being iffy out of the gate this year wouldn't be that shocking, in part because it's The Flyers, and also because they do a preseason game in Switzerland, season opener in Prague with Chicago, home against NJ, then immediately out to a western conference swing for 3 games. They're gonna be a mess for the first couple weeks.

There really aren't any old slow rear end vets left in Philly, or at least not from the previous regimes. At this point there's only a couple spots to fill, and one's because Patrick's hurt.
