ThinkTank posted:That's a good deal for the Leafs It's really not. Dubas has lost out on nearly every contract negotiation he's been involved in. Marner is great but I don't believe that he should be valued like a top 10 skater league wide.

TrueChaos posted:I don't really agree on that front. It's going to be tight for a year or two, but the new TV deal should push the cap up and it'll be fine. The Nylander deal is going to look fantastic. I would be shocked if Rantanen and Point end up signing for as much as Marner did. Tkachuk will probably get under 10M too.

CBJSprague24 posted:Awww, gently caress Jarmo, you shoulda offer sheeted. There are still plenty of better targets available for offer sheets. If the few competitive teams with enough cap space to make them aren't cowards, then it's probably just that RFAs haven't been accepting the offers (or were waiting for the first big name winger to sign).

Ginette Reno posted:You know sometimes cap space is good but sometimes that extra space just gets used on Jack Johnson. Marner getting 1-2 million more cap hit than Leafs fans hoped isn't gonna sink the Leafs. Exactly the same argument was made about Tavares and Matthews and Nylander. If you keep signing guys to above market deals you leave little margin for error and have to draft well and pick up league minimum bargains every year. It's not impossible but why make life harder for yourself?

https://mobile.twitter.com/RussoHockey/status/1172925669057208321 I don't know why defensemen seem to hate hitting UFA so much.

Seriously, why do good defensemen keep signing lovely contracts instead of firing their agents?

Tim Horton got stinking drunk and destroyed a perfectly good Pantera and he got his number retired.

I don't know how he self-identifies but Mike Cammalleri's mother is Jewish so he's the best to date.

Rantanen got 15% less than Marner. That's more than just making up for the income tax difference. So basically my fears of Dubas being a lousy contract negotiator were entirely founded. Sigh. What I don't understand is why players in low income tax states are accepting less than market rates. I guess it's fine if they have an NMC but what if they end up wanting to get traded and now their Florida discount deal is losing them millions in some other state or the socialist wastes of Canada?

quote:"I wish I had found CBD way sooner in my career,” Cammalleri said in an interview on Tuesday. “The demands of playing in the NHL can be tough. It’s commonplace to see guys taking stimulants to play and then they need something else to get to bed and settle down at 2 or 3 a.m. I had one teammate who would take an oxycodone, a Vicodin and an Ambien, dropping all three into a beer and calling it ‘The Perfect Storm.’ I thought there had to be a healthier, more sustainable way. I believe now that CBD is that better way.” This is fine. Heh. *nervously fidgets*
