You guys ever wake up feeling refreshed and not tired? What's that like? No matter how many, or how few hours I sleep, the first thought that goes through my mind when I wake up is how tired I am and how much I just want to go back to sleep. Which I often do. |

Get a sleep study to see if you have sleep apnea |

Cool and good sleep suggestions, thanks guys. I don't know much about sleep apnea, but I don't snore and I'm only 150 lbs. Do either of those things matter? I thought you had to be a fat sack to get hit by the apnea I want to be able to go to sleep and wake up at the same time but I just lay there wide awake until the sun starts coming up |

insomnia sucks my dude. Medications are a short term band aid solution, probably need some lifestyle changes. |

This helps anyone who has any component of circadian rhythm disruption to their insomnia (most people) - especially if you make sure to get some natural light for the first hour after you wake up. If you can't get that then blue light will work. Jesustheastronaut! posted:Cool and good sleep suggestions, thanks guys. I don't know much about sleep apnea, but I don't snore and I'm only 150 lbs. Do either of those things matter? I thought you had to be a fat sack to get hit by the apnea While being overweight increases the likelihood of sleep apnea, it is far from the only cause of it. The good news is that often in people with sleep apnea that isn't caused by weight issues it is correctable with surgery. But as HP mentioned, don't focus on when you go to sleep but rather when you wake up. Also if you find yourself not sleeping and it's stressing you - get up for awhile and come back to try again otherwise you're setting yourself up for a flight or fight based stress reaction that makes it harder to sleep and can become ingrained. Limit your time in bed to a prescribed maximum - if you want 8 hours of sleep then you're only allowed to be in bed for up to 8 hours before your getting up time. Do NOT go back to bed if you're still tired. Oh also even if you are overweight and snore that doesn't mean you have sleep apnea - I meet both those criteria but my oxygen saturation while asleep is perfect. Ebeneezer Splooge posted:insomnia sucks my dude. Medications are a short term band aid solution, probably need some lifestyle changes. Yeah, medication is worse than useless - it tends to make insomnia worse long term as well as side effects/addiction or withdrawal risk. Most sleep specialists won't prescribe it for you, tends to be given out like candy by GPs instead.
