I only saw Michael Jones when he was old and broken, but from what I've heard would current Ardie Savea be a good comparison to him in his prime (era adjusted)?

er... what?

Even if he *was* offside, it's beyond me how a professional foul that fails to stop the try (ala Ireland in the first half) is just a try in the corner, whereas a foul that successfully stops a try is both a penalty try under the posts, AND a sinbin.

And another knee to a tryscorer unpunished, Nigel Owen has been overall good, but very lenient on foul play.

To have the focus and determination to get to the elite level of any sport you are highly likely to be a hyper competitive rear end in a top hat who sees anything less than first as a failure. Most of the time there's a manager or PR person in their ear reminding them to do and say the right things while they're on camera which doesn't seem to have happened in this instance.

Folau has gone full 'Westboro': https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/117489806/israel-folau-fire-and-droughts-in-australia-are-gods-punishment

quote:

Israel Folau: Fire and droughts in Australia are God's punishment

Israel Folau has claimed fire and droughts in Australia are punishment from God.
Sacked former Wallabies star Israel Folau says the ongoing bushfire crisis in Australia is punishment from God.

In a sermon posted on Facebook, Folau claimed the crisis, along with the ongoing drought, were both punishments for legalising same-sex marriage and abortion.

"God's word says for a man and a woman to be together, one man and one woman in the covenant of marriage to be together.

"They've changed that law and have now legalised same-sex marriage," Folau said in the sermon.

"Abortion, it's okay now to murder and kill infants, unborn children, and they deem that to be okay.

"You have changed the law and changed the ordinance of these things, look how rampant these bushfires, these droughts ... all these things have come in a short period of time. Do you think it's a coincidence or not?

"God is speaking to you guys, Australia. You need to repent," Folau said.

Israel Folau was sacked by Rugby Australia in May, in response to his controversial posts on social media.

Folau had claimed transgender people were evil and should repent.

He also said "drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolators" would go to hell unless they repented.

In 2018, he said gay people were going to hell on social media.

I know outrage is the default setting for anything trans but why do people think there is a separate category for women in the first place if not for protective and competitive reasons?

Why create a separate category for women and exclude some women from it?

Because at the time you set up the category (for safety and competitive reasons to allow women to play) you didn't anticipate people from outside that category (edit: who possess many of the physical characteristics you intended to exclude for those same safety and competitive reasons) would or could enter it.

I edited at the same time you replied, but you know exactly what I mean - people who were born and developed as male and as a result have the physical characteristics that the categorisation was intended to exclude.

Is that true?

No, at least not in any reputable source I can find.

I suspect based on the persistence of the claim there must have been a study that isolated one variable where the results were ambiguous enough or the sample size small enough to allow activists to fudge it but as per the IRB release the science is pretty clear that there is a significant imbalance in multiple areas.

There are just so many athletic advantages of being born and gone through puberty as a male that do not go away from taking hormones starting (and by no means ending) with bone density, lung capacity, strength, body frame. There is a reason why many mediocre recreational sportsmen immediately become elite female athletes as soon as they are allowed to compete as women after transitioning, even when they are decades older than the other elite women. It is impossible to not find those cases and understand why that is unless you are ideologically unwilling to see it.
