I only saw Michael Jones when he was old and broken, but from what I've heard would current Ardie Savea be a good comparison to him in his prime (era adjusted)?

er... what? Even if he *was* offside, it's beyond me how a professional foul that fails to stop the try (ala Ireland in the first half) is just a try in the corner, whereas a foul that successfully stops a try is both a penalty try under the posts, AND a sinbin.

And another knee to a tryscorer unpunished, Nigel Owen has been overall good, but very lenient on foul play.

I kinda wish the haka would get banned because the tedious debates stirred up annually by the UK media really aren't worth the bother of keeping it.

To have the focus and determination to get to the elite level of any sport you are highly likely to be a hyper competitive rear end in a top hat who sees anything less than first as a failure. Most of the time there's a manager or PR person in their ear reminding them to do and say the right things while they're on camera which doesn't seem to have happened in this instance.

SRU looked extra stupid when the game went ahead anyway and they were comprehensively beaten.

Defending SRU throwing a petulant tantrum about the contingencies in a tournament agreement they willingly signed which all turned out to be hypothetical anyway is a weird hill to die on.

I remember there was a little bit of 'God's Wrath' talk about the Christchurch earthquakes, I think around the Manchester Street sex workers being displaced. It was quickly shut down by the observation that the various churches around the city seemed to have copped some of the worst damage.

About time a major sporting body made the right call on that for player safety alone even setting aside fairness.

I know outrage is the default setting for anything trans but why do people think there is a separate category for women in the first place if not for protective and competitive reasons?

BabyFur Denny posted:Why create a separate category for women and exclude some women from it? Because at the time you set up the category (for safety and competitive reasons to allow women to play) you didn't anticipate people from outside that category (edit: who possess many of the physical characteristics you intended to exclude for those same safety and competitive reasons) would or could enter it. No, at least not in any reputable source I can find. I suspect based on the persistence of the claim there must have been a study that isolated one variable where the results were ambiguous enough or the sample size small enough to allow activists to fudge it but as per the IRB release the science is pretty clear that there is a significant imbalance in multiple areas. There are just so many athletic advantages of being born and gone through puberty as a male that do not go away from taking hormones starting (and by no means ending) with bone density, lung capacity, strength, body frame. There is a reason why many mediocre recreational sportsmen immediately become elite female athletes as soon as they are allowed to compete as women after transitioning, even when they are decades older than the other elite women. It is impossible to not find those cases and understand why that is unless you are ideologically unwilling to see it.
