IMO, the rules should be: "Did your knees or shoulders touch the ground during a tackle attempt? Tackle complete, release the ball." This held/not held stuff is too subjective.

I didn't realise Mapimpi was already 29 and that he only turned professional at 24. He only got a break when a Vodacom Cup team went bust and they had to bring in some amateurs to fill the squad out. Pretty crazy journey to go from playing Eastern Cape amateur rugby to scoring in a World Cup Final.

Australia were just better at lineout and maul on both sides of the ball. Scotland dominated the ruck defensively in the first half but all the turnovers dried up after half time. Their discipline fell apart after Young's yellow card. Kinghorn had a pretty solid game but assigning kicking duties to a guy who doesn't take kicks for his club is probably not a good idea. We could really do with finding some kickers who aren't 10's so we have a bit more flexibility. Another thought: Townsend has stitched up Kinghorn by dropping Russell from the squad and then not picking another goalkicker to go alongside Kinghorn. Russell wasn't even available today but Kinghorn is getting pelters because he's just fodder in the Toony/SRU vs Finn war for the soul of Scottish rugby. Sort of the antithesis of the 2021 performance from Scotland, where they dominated but only scored 11 points. Today the set piece was medicore, they gave up 3 tries, and comprehensively lost every kicking battle, but were extremely clinical and looked like they could score any time England made a mistake. I wonder if Hogg will get dropped next week. He didn't do much in attack and his kicking was crap. Basically looked like a guy who hasn't played for Exeter for a few months. Ah well. Scotland were kinda poo poo after about 30 minutes again so they probably deserved to lose. Calling for the scrum after the yellow card was dumb as gently caress. The Scottish forwards were making yards and forcing penalties from lineout mauls (11 lineouts won to 0 lost in the first half!) and hard carries, why change the point of attack?
