Cross save from Switch to PC! Daemon x Machina is a Switch exclusive mech builder action game in the vein of Armored Core. How's the gameplay? Fun, lightning quick action with a good variety of single player mission types, with the online dominated by Monster Hunter-esque boss fights and team Arsenal duels. You can try out the demo and not waste your time, since everything in the demo is carried over to the full game. Didn't this get thrashed in reviews? It's got a 70% on metacritic, which, to put that in perspective, is higher than any Armored Core since 3 came out 17 years ago. Mech builders don't review well. How grindy is it? It's pretty much exactly as grindy as you make it. You can play straight through the game, never playing a side mission, and be reasonably equipped. If you want to have perfect triple slots on everything and unlock every secret part, there's a hundred hours of gameplay there for you. How's the story? Don't play this for the story. https://twitter.com/AesObscure/status/1172618943283908608 Unreal_One fucked around with this message at 06:34 on Jan 8, 2021 |

I'd argue the story isn't bad for what it is. It really gives a horrid first impression though. In what I assume are the middle rank C missions now: gently caress this train escort

That mission is the one I realized I needed too start getting serious about beefing up my mech, and even then I beat it with the train having less than 10% health. And for the story, well, there's both too much story and at the same time not enough story. Like there are a lot of cutscenes with a lot of dialogue but most of it is characters yelling their one personality trait or being needless vague. It doesn't help that the various organizations you work for are faceless and rather than working alongside one consistent group you are constantly rotating partners. Basically they should have either gone with a minimal story, or copied Front Mission 3s notes. But outside of the story, I'm honestly having a blast, hell, even the on foot missions are pretty fun which I was not expecting.

One thing to note for the OP is that there are multiplayer missions you can access by using the smaller console to the right of your main mission terminal, right next to the cyberdog. The multiplayer missions are fighting the large AI machines like the gunforts or fighting the different mech teams from the story. Their hp doesn't seem to be scaled down if you have less than 4 people, but you can bring along up to 3 AI partners you've unlocked in the SP missions. I'm working my way through the rank B missions and I'm at a real loss as to what weapons I should be using, I've swapped out my dual MGs for an AR/Sword and a shotgun gun arm, but I really wish I didn't have to mash the trigger to keep firing the shotgun. The Garuda missiles have garbage tracking, but it's so great holding down the button and firing off a ton at a time. The way the player upgrades sometimes modify your appearance into a cyborg is a really neat idea, although I have no idea why none of the NPC pilots have any mods at all. Water in this game really sucks since any enemy that falls into it can't be looted and any partner that falls into it can't be revived. Stay far away from water if you can help it.

Actually there's two NPCs with cybernetics on their face. One guy has a metal chin and the berserker guy from bullet works has one of the ones that covers the eyes.

Literally every member of Innocent (ouroboros symbol) have the chin thing, if you look.

I wanna say Painkiller has a roboarm, too. But yeah no one gets as freakishly 'borged as your character gets even a few upgrades in.

This game was really getting on my loving nerves until I switched the audio to Japanese and suddenly it turned into a God's honest real robot anime.

The train mission is bad yea. I won it first time at 10% left. I was mostly pissed I didn't get to blow up the remaining enemies and loot them for parts. Pandora's Box missiles are super good. 12 targets, come out quickly, decent damage. Trying to unlock all the parts is a nightmare. Drops are very random and buying poo poo is super expensive.

Buying stuff is only really useful for developing more stuff anyways. Nothing you buy comes with mod slots. Boss items you develop come with one mod slot and nothing else. The endgame is farming for poo poo to get mods and the 3 slot items to shove them into. This is the crude drop list someone's made so far: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ECS__YKsiuOiCzv1aOgeyFjg0Wxo6dDEX92vYt7sCGE/htmlview

How do you increase your damage decently. I feel like I am doing no very little damage in Zoa and Deva battle after the train mission, were I also felt I was barely able to dent Panzer Crown no matter how much I hit them. The Melee weapons particularly don't feel like they are hitting as hard as they should. Also I can't find the buster sword anymore, which I need to develop a new sword.

Femto weapons (lasers and laser swords) seem to be the heaviest hitters vs other arsenals from my experience. Dual bazooka is also hilariously effective for burst damage.

Femto focus on weapons (dpad up on default control scheme) basically doubles your dps, so do that. Get close with machine guns is my main tactic, only a few Arsenals can survive for long under a hail of point blank bullets. At long ranges it's too easy for them to dodge. Also, make sure you're near the optimal range for your weapons, that makes them hit considerably harder.

The pro (read: fun) melee strat is to use the mace. It does a bunch of damage and sends people flying when you hit them. I had a mission where I connected with like two dual mace hits in the entire thing and it was 25% of my total damage output.

I literally just did the "analyse the train" mission and I put femto into offensive stance, whipped out the mace and absolutely crushed one of the defending units with it.

I don't even have a mace ): I find the bazooka arm to be pretty good, though it runs out of ammo as fast as normal bazookas... If you time your shots right you can get a pretty decent firing rate going with them as well. Tempted to try a dual bazooka arm build...

One of the nice things about having multiple copies of a weapon type in a loadput is that ammo drops are given in full to each weapon of a type. You see that 5 bazooka ammo pickup? If you have a bazooka in each hand, that's 10 ammo. One on both pylons, too? That's 20.

oh my god gently caress getting Snatcher's blueprint drop for anyone also banging their head against this: the Free Mission version doesn't expose its weakpoints ever, and breaking weakpoints raises drop chance. I ended up having to solo the Multiplayer version, which covers you in Strais (seriously like 7 of them) from the get go and autofails you if you don't do X amount of damage before a certain point in the track. So you have to just endure bullet hell while fighting Snatcher.

Question anyone know were you can get the Baldur's Edge. I appear to have skipped to Baldur's Edge II and I need the original version to unlock a cool sword in the factory.

Slightly dead thread ! - but I'm on the last story mission and it's hard as hell, anyone have any tips? I'm enjoying the co-op missions a lot with a buddy, though my lightweight Arsenal build sometimes struggles with some longer missions - I'm running an Assault Rifle/Sniper and twin Machine Guns on the pylons.

Zoom around the bottom pit and grab on to the weird barrels and hurl those fuckers in the face of the whatever it's called. Bring a healy shoulder thing maybe. But if you're not at the boss yet, yeah, dual bazookas are good for both locking down and killing things, I also like the fire and forget missiles, most of them will miss but you can keep shooting forever. Dual assault rifles or machineguns can also poo poo out dece damage, but bazooka is king ime.

Oh poo poo a thread. Don't get why people are sour on the train escort, it rules, just a giant mobile clusterfuck of a gunfight across a desert where your switching targets constantly

For the free missions wingmen are useless enough that you don't need them most of the time, I don't think they take your money if you solo multiplayer missions though. EDIT: Actually they are not really useless as such, but the cost is pretty high.

The train mission isn't bad. It's the one a mission or two after I'm stuck on (where it basically turns into a 1v5 as your allies die so fast.)

If you are having trouble, jump into multiplayer to get better gear be it immortal weapons or arsenal gear. You can join the nintengoons discord and ask there if you need help but ymmv on goon availability. EDIT: At some point I just went for chonkiest build with most bazooka and uh, well, except for a few missions it worked out pretty well!
