I'd like to see what more areas are like than the one in the demo. The game seems fun and I am for some reason kind of invested in the story they've set up, but the demo area is very much boring grey tunnels. If they've got some cool locales to explore I'll definitely give it a chance.

Namco has published some of From's games but there's a reason people talk about them as Fromsoft games and not Namco games. Whether they can pull it off too remains to be seen.

A lot of the reviews were mentioning it was the AI teammate that really seemed to control their difficulty curves. People who were frustrated by a poor AI thought the game was too hard, others whose AI was acting correctly thought the game was too easy. One reviewer said the game's difficulty was erratic as a result, another thought the entire game was easy all the time as long as you had an AI period.

So my take away was, if you want the game to be more difficult, drop the AI partner and go solo.

I've been running solo but I think I'm gonna break out the partner for these trials of blood, they're a nightmare

I found it, it was back near the shortcut door in the parking garage. Make sure you break all boxes, people!

In addition to this, I'm curious about how much of the story is delivered through cutscenes and forced dialogues and the like. Being an anime game, I would expect there to be a lot of flashy and over-wrought scenes as well as exposition out the wazoo. Is this the case, or is it Dark Souls in story delivery style as well?

Basically, I'm coming off of Borderlands 3 which stops the action at every possible moment to make you sit through quippy monologues, and I'd like to avoid experiencing that in another game.

There's plenty of cutscenes, it's much more of a story driven game than Souls for better or worse.

I kind of love the game's whole Ichor/Gift system. Once you learn to mix drains into your combos it becomes apparent that you're supposed to be using Gifts all the time. Makes things a lot more fun and also makes the game stand out from the souls games.

I'm not gonna bang on this drum too hard or put down people who choose to do it but I feel like I should say this at least once: if you use the AI partners all the time you're missing out on a lot of what makes the game so cool. From my experience they make things more than a little easier as they absolutely trivialized the Trials of Blood I was struggling with. The game gives you an incredible amount of tools to work with in its gift system but only demands you engage with it if you're playing solo.

The AI partners are definitely a good feature for if things are getting too difficult but I strongly recommend playing without them most of the time. Save them for if something has you really frustrated.

Just found this btw, it's in the Howling Pit (makes sense it looks like you tend to find most vestiges of one category in the same area) a little ways past the eagle key door. Very near the fight to get the Moss Covered Key.

highly recommend swapping blood codes around a lot, there's a bunch of different playstyles and it's so easy to just try poo poo out. i'm near the end of the game and i have like 26 codes atm and i've barely tried half

Especially since codes you get later will often have better stats and provide better gifts than ones you get early in the game so you wanna unlock as much as possible.

Coming from dark souls the estus thingy here bugs the poo poo out of me. Estus healing you early in dark souls covered about 60-80% of your hp. Here you're healing 300-400 (varies by class it seems) out of 1200 hp. I do hope healing scales as you progress. I've come across the Regen extensions but nothing to improve heal amount yet.

There are ones that improve heal amount too, they start showing up a bit farther in. I have 3 now and my healing is back to quite respectable.

I just got this far and I'm really not sure how you misinterpreted this. Karen is the source of Blood Beads, she isn't the Queen. The queen is Cruz who was split up into pieces.

No level 22 is fine. Leveling up is good, it's just that you should keep in mind that spending Haze on getting new gifts and upgrading gear is generally more useful. But if you've got the Haze to spare, get those levels, more health and damage is always good.

I keep trying to make ranged builds work but I'm just so bad at it since it's not how I usually play in Souls games at all. They're fun for exploration but every time I bring one to a boss I get completely stomped until I switch to melee. I most like both huge strong swords and fast small swords.

I haven't really been able to make guns work, even with Mia's special skill; magic gets way better later because you get some decent variety whereas you're stuck with Quick Fireball and Big Fireball for the first five areas or so

It also probably doesn't help magic that it's really hard to tell what things are weak to, except in really obvious cases like Ice enemies are weak to Fire

Yeah currently I'm trying to fight the mountain boss with the Isis code and going full on magic

Ichorous Ice is easily my favorite spell from that one, it's insanely good unless the enemy is mega resistant

Oh ugh, was that not Isis? Did I actually miss the Isis blood code then?? Cause I remember getting like B C and D in Not Anor Londo but I never found the code itself

You get the code from resurrecting Aurora which requires you to complete all her vestiges first with Leda. All the successor blood codes work like this I imagine.

Regy Rusty
Apr 26, 2010

Kanos posted:

To explain the confusion(plot spoilers i guess?):

There's two potential codes from each successor. If you find and visit all of the successor's memories(all of the Isis vestiges from Anor Londo, for example) BEFORE you fight the boss in question, you can save the successor after they turn to stone and you receive their "human" code - in that case, the Isis code from Aurora. If you don't collect all of the vestiges for the boss and visit them before you fight the boss, they stay dead and you receive their Queen code - in this case, the Queen's Ribcage. The codes are mutually exclusive in one playthrough, so you can't get both Isis and Queen's Ribcage without NG+.

Whether or not you save each successor apparently determines which ending you get, as well.

Lol thank you that clears it up. I was gonna make sure to do that anyway but good to know what it affects.

Ohhh that's weird the cutscene in the middle of that area is like "hmm we must've missed something let's go back" but then I guess you get another ?? scene right after that which might invite you to continue.

The must have missed something scene is just part of the story and is hinting towards something storywise but not giving you gameplay instructions.
