Yeah, not being able to see jackshit really spices up my video game experience let me tell you. e: I don't mean to be hard on you because Noita is a loving amazing game, but loving with the player's ability to, y'know, see what the hell is going on is (a) just making the game less fun, and (b) especially bad in Noita where seeing the amazing and hilarious poo poo that can happen to the environment all around you is 71% of the experience.

Is it only me that feels fungal caverns aren't worth even visitng any more. The quality of wands vs the strength of the monsters, plus now the new humid modifier means that if you get lucky and find a black hole to crack into the steel encased wands they go about 2 milimetres, plus the wand is going to suck.

I love love love this game but I legit do not understand anything about aside from "find wands, kill dude, pray I get to the portal". Then again, I felt like that with Binding of Isaac and I got Plat on that one.

dyzzy posted:This thread in a nutshell It's got some kind of fractional damage multiplier and only lets a damage instance in every 2 seconds or so, but also only has, I'm going to guess, something like 300 hp. It takes a long time to kill it using a low damage machine gun wand, but damage boosts on a high damage projectile are a little better. It's dangerous though with the explosives spam and the status effect shots And trigger shots are pretty useless because you just get the spark bolt damage and the payload is ignored. resistentialism fucked around with this message at 17:28 on Oct 19, 2020 |

I found a wand which cast a huge number of bubbles but it also had the gunpowder links thing and it destroyed my frame rate. I think it makes the links between every pair, not just a single link? I couldn't really see past the particle effects. Like most cool wands it killed enemies pretty effectively. I found if I hovered above them I tended to set myself on fire less, the bubbles wandered around a lot though

Do the gods get mad at you for taking too long? I was just in the temple after the underground jungle experimenting with wands, having not even taken the perk or had any abilitiy or spells to destroy the temple bricks when the game just got mad at me for no reason. Wait I think those green balls with legs somehow buried their way down here??

if i remember right the gods get pissed if the temple is damaged, period, and since all instances of the temple also exist in the world there is a slim chance that some random critter blew something up close to the temple wall.

Wasnt there a protection crystal added explicitely to stop random worms from angering the gods and ending runs constantly in the beta? Tho ive seen gods being angered on a few streams with the crystal intact and the player still juggling spells in the inventory, so theres probably something else being wonky.
|
# ? Oct 19, 2020 23:46 |

The worm crystal isn't 100% effective against worms and there are other things (jungle spiders, acid spewers, a hisii with a nuke, wand just to name a few) that'll gently caress up a temple

Basically, there's no guarantee that you won't have your quiet time in the temple rudely interrupted by some critter, and the devs have presumably decided that they're OK with that.

Without going into tying the mechanic to a specific sub-denomination, it's definitely a more modern element meant to give a more concrete sense of progression to newcomers.

Dumlefudge posted:I'm kinda dumb when it comes to the details of the rogue-like genre, but isn't it rogue-lites that bring persistence and carry-over to the table? The word "roguelike" now has two definitions: the definition it had for like 25 years prior to 2010 or so, and the new definition which is basically "procedural generation, permadeath, and metaprogression". Language being what it is, neither definition is wrong (unless you're a linguistic prescriptivist, in which case uh good luck) but they definitely come into conflict sometimes.

Oh cool, release! Now that the pace of updates is presumably slowing down, I feel motivated to dive deep back into modding the game. It was quite disheartening (though 100% understandable given early access) to spend dozens of hours working on a mod only to have a new update break everything I jerry-rigged together. I have a vision of a grand-scale, more action-adventure focused world with high non-linearity, a sense of long-term player progression and lots of secrets to find.

Unlimited spells + water breathing + the auto electrocute perk + the raincloud spell is amazing. You just slowly drown the entire level, then go collect whatever is left. (And then accidentally set off a bomb with the electrocute and kill yourself).

I hope some day there's an option to just make all the wands stupid and random. I know the Mines originally had a lot of limited-generation wands that were utter garbage and there was a mod or something that would replace those with actual random ones. A lot of the fun in this is making incredibly stupid wands that killed everything (including you) and it feels like you might as well skip the first two areas and pray you get something decent in the third.

It's a quad cast wand with 3 spark bolts and increase mana + luminous drill, hitting the minimum recharge time. Super simple but it's still shredding enemies in the jungle.

Huh, I’d always tossed spark bolts as soon as I found something else, never considered that modifiers could keep them relevant past the coal mines or ice caves
