I really, really, really loved that finale, I think it's the best finale to a show I've ever seen. Every single aspect of it landed for me, it felt complete in a remarkable way, everything earned over the course of seasons not paying off but rather culminating. E; ^^^ I agee 100% with this. I don't want to say my interpretation/reaction is the only valid one, of course not. But that was not about suicide in any meaningful sense, or if it was, only in the context of a future scifi world where we have literal immortality and death only happens when we choose it. Literally Chidi's entire arc was becoming the kind of person who could ask his partner to let him put himself first, and do what he felt he needed to do. The moral of his character is that it is okay, good, and necessary to know your own needs and desires and to ask for others to respect them. And much of Eleanor's was becoming the kind of person who could let their partner go for the same reasons, with love and without resentment.

Nybble posted:To add to the point that Bearimys don’t matter or they are a loop: Eleanor’s essence helps someone out in the 2010s. That's one issue I did have with the show - when they realized that actually, there hasn't been a mistake or the Bad Place deliberately stealing Good Place-bound people, but rather Earth is now set up in such a fashion that we can't be "good people" (at least by the metrics used) because of the distant ramificaitons of our actions, I kind of assumed they would try to do something about that as well, either by changing the points system to account for it in some way, or by trying to change things for the living. I get why the test plan circumvents that issue in terms of getting points and still deciding more fairly and all that, but I did expect there would be at least an attempt to tell people on Earth "Hey poo poo's actually hosed dawgs, gotta fix things!" e; Aggro posted:That is an astoundingly concise and beautiful way to summarize their endings. Thank you so much, what a lovely thing to say! ![]() Ms Adequate fucked around with this message at 22:30 on Feb 2, 2020 |
