I'm giving it two years but I'm just too chicken to say one. The food overton window is shifting and it hasn't gotten to bugs yet but it feels to me that it's just about time. I think people are just about ready to get their protein from ant farms. Again, if they're willing to drink kombucha they can do anything. And yes I know some ingredients we don't think about come from bugs but I'm talking about undisguised bug paste or fried ants or something.

I don't think there's anything wrong with eating bugs. We could do with less mammal meat.

No time at all. You can buy them right now, they just come pre‐shredded and mixed with a bunch of inedible garbage like “flour”.

I ordered a bowl of mixed fried bugs once when I lived in Okinawa. I think they were fried in fish oil or something but they were edible and tasted fine. Just make sure you pull the stinger and pincers off the scorpion and you've got good eatin'.

For real, I'm thinking of trying to get into this type of business on the ground floor, but I need to figure out which bugs taste the best or at least work as good filler. I mean, I've had crickets and a few types of ants, but I hear some spiders are really good. Almost everything I hear bout grubs is bad. Anybody have tips on where to start, or also into this type of work?

For North America it's probably realistically like 30+ years before insects became culturally acceptable to eat. You basically need an entire generation to die off and another one to grow up eating them as a normal meal.

Meat is the edible flesh of animals. Insects are animals. You're the guy that tries to order chicken teriyaki at Nobu.

Like obviously a bag of novelty edible crickets has a very minimal amount of environmental impact, but has there been any research on what impact harvesting insects would have if it was done on the scale required to feed a bunch of fat Americans?

Also I have no problem eating bugs and you're a pussy if you do. Most likely we'll see them used in protein supplement form similar to whey and you won't even know it's there. Just like you don't know you're already eating them now, since the FDA allows a certain percentage of all processed foods to contain them by necessity, since they get into everything. This time it'll just be on purpose. You still won't notice.

Will some people take the moral high ground when it comes to eating bugs or do the rules not apply because they aren't cute animals?
