When I was in college I bought a few books on hypnotism and learned how to do it. My friend Andrew at the time was a willing victim of my hypnotising skills and me and our friends used to make him get up to all sorts. I made him think he was an iguana in the restroom and he climbed up onto the thin top of the cubicle and wouldn't come down for 10 mins while we all watched with baited breath I got him to see everyone naked in college for a few minutes He got drunk of a pint of water I'd suggested was vodka But my favourite one was on the train - he commuted 40 miles every day on the train and when he was sitting in the carriage I waved my hands over his eyes and said "sleep". He went bunder so I told him that on the train all the way to the end station would be a gremlin out of the movie Gremlins and it would annoy him all the way home. The next day he was a bit pissed at me he said this gremlin was swinging from the rails and jumping on the seats going "raa raa raa" and he could hear it even through his headphones. Eventually he decided to jump off at a station - the gremlin followed - and then he jumped back on just before the doors closed. The gremlin got back on the carriage next stop. Anyway those are my hypnosis stories. Now goons, you are feeling sleepy

My next door neighbor was a hypnotist who took it incredibly seriously and would rant to me about about fake hypnotists all the time if he caught me walking into my place. Also he was super into selling and eating powdered placenta and he would go to the hospital for spare placenta and I think they would give them to him lol. Kind of sad he moved that dude as entertaining as hell.

I saw a live hypnotism show at college where they mass hypnotized like 15-20 people and you could tell it was fake as poo poo because anyone who wasn't "hypnotized" (i.e. not playing along) was immediately rushed off stage by like 3-4 stage hands

As far as "real" hypnotism goes, only those who are subconsiously ready to hypnotism should be attempted to be hypnotized. That's why stage hypnotists ask who wants to be hypnotized, and push skeptics off the stage because they can't be hypnotized. It has nothing to do with being a sham or "pretending". If you notice stage hypnotists take 10 minutes of speech or so to get you to focus and then they ask who wants to be hypnotized, by that time those who can be hypnotized are already entranced. Sometimes you'll find people in the audience doing the same things that people on the stage are doing.

My sister once did a thing where I closed my eyes and she clapped either side of my head for like 10 minutes and then said she was tying a rope to my wrists and that the other end was tied to the back of a truck and then she said the truck was driving away and my arms went up automatically. I love stage hypnotism shows, I've played the hypnotee in around 8 different shows with 3 different hypnotists. Of course it's complete bullshit, but in my youth I was a summer camp counselor so standing on a stage and making an utter fool of myself is something of a specialty of mine. Getting up on stage is easy, just stand up real straight, raise your hand up high, and (this part is key) give a big old shiteating grin that just screams "I've got self confidence and will totally go along with whatever bullshit you want to throw down lady!" Never failed me once. Best bit: Secret agent armed with a big-ol-supersoaker and a mandate to protect the stage from a passing monorail, but I'm holding the supersoaker backwards. Worst bit: Chippendale dancer (huurrr he's dancing sexy its funny) Right at the start of any stage hypnosis show ever, right after they "put you out" they'll have the whole stage do SOMETHING physical and wacky, just go all out during that part and you'll get a fun bit to play.

The guys calling it fake are misunderstanding what it actually is. It's not magically compelling you to do things against your will. The best way I can think to describe it is: if you're open to it, the hypnotist's words take the place of your inner monologue while your "self" goes silent.

You can hypnotize a chicken pretty easily in various ways. I don't see why a person couldn't similarly be hypnotized by holding them down or spinning around a bit.

We had a hypnotist come into our high school once for an assembly. He was selecting volunteers and my friends pushed me into the floor. So he selected me. Sat me next to my crush. He tried to hypnotize us and told my crush and I to act like we were an old married couple. She went with it. It was in the top 3 high school memories.

My favorite hypnotist is Derren Brown who poopoos any psychic stuff and instead uses suggestion and misdirection to imitate it. He exposes a lot of what charlatans at seances did in the late 19th/early 20th century
