I think almost everyone on both sides assumed they were protesting against what’s happening in Gaza. How’s that going?

A team has lost a sponsor, was that the stated goal of the protests?

I don't recall anyone, at any point, saying that the protests were a one step program to halt a genocide. Except for you, 2 months ago, and you're still wrong.

I know some of you sickos listen to Lanterne Rouge: have they always had inserted third-party ads? I don't mean the ad reads that they themselves too, I mean the weird European lady talking to me about healthcare thrice per episode since about October.

Never heard anything but ad reads by LR before. But I usually watch on YouTube, and have premium.

What platform are you using? I don't follow LR myself but that sounds a lot like the Spotify auto ads.

Pocket Casts on iOS.

Yeah, figured - one of the perks of living in a small country is that like 95% of the time I'm listening to a podcast and they cut to an ad break I just get a moment of silence because they haven't bothered with this market... yet.
I remember getting jumpscared by ads in Finnish when I had forgotten to turn off my VPN during the Tour.

“Thursday afternoon, the WorldTour cycling team formerly known as Israel–Premier Tech unveiled its new form: NSN Cycling Team, which will be licensed out of Switzerland and based in Spain. A few short months after its presence at the Vuelta a España incited fierce protests, the IPT project has unraveled. According to reports, IPT's cantankerous owner, Israeli billionaire Sylvan Adams, is out of the sport.”

When the numbers don't add up: The trouble with the 2025 Cycling Esports Worlds

quote:

Still, when the YouTube livestream sat at roughly 17,000 views six hours after the race, 28,000 some 12 hours after that, and stayed that way after 24 hours, it became clear the broadcast hadn’t landed as hoped.

And that’s when everything changed.
Within four hours (roughly 29 hours after the event), the viewership numbers on the MyWhoosh YouTube channel for the event livestream video spiked to 264,000, then up to 460,000 the next hour, and over 500,000 in the next – eventually stalling at around 524,000 after 35 hours. They remained at this mark for two days without increasing much, and now sit at 529,000 at the time of publication.

The Twitch stream didn’t see the same boom (or any increase at all), and the comments and likes on YouTube barely changed from pre-spike levels. The Arabic-language version showed the same static pattern. MyWhoosh’s subscriber count also stayed fixed at 145,000, unchanged from before the event. No other videos on the channel showed substantial growth, except for a MyWhoosh-sponsored podcast interview with Tadej Pogačar that jumped at the same time. And, perhaps not coincidentally, ads began appearing at the start of the World Championships video during that window. Furthermore, the livestream of the World Championships semi-final qualification event on October 3 has 17,000 views.
Lol, and furthermore: lmao.

Not sure if anyones paid attention to the nonsense thats going on with Warner Bros, but its likely TNT sports and Discovery are going to get bought out by several different companies. Netflix and Paramount are only bidding on the Movie studio/HBO.

So after ruining all the goodwill last year its likely cycling will be on something totally different in 2027.

Older, balder, fatter...
It sucks how broken up cycling stuff is. I used to be able to get most stuff on our local satellite tv provider but for the last few years they've had no Italian races at all. No idea if they just didn't want to pay for them or it's some other poo poo like another paid streaming network has the rights here but it's annoying. No world championships this year either. Cyclocross used to be shown here but not anymore.
Also gently caress Israel.

hmm. hmmmmmmmm
It’s a bit more complicated than that

quote:

Netflix's $72 billion offer, or roughly $27.75 per share, is for WBD's movie studio and streaming business. Paramount's takeover bid is $30 per share, but that is for all of WBD's assets, including its cable networks. So it's not a true apples-to-apples comparison. And this is where it gets complicated.

Warner Bros. had designs to spin off its cable networks — CNN, TNT, and the Discovery Channel — before the planned merger.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/netflix-and-paramount-are-competing-for-wbd-in-2-very-different-ways-105900852.html

I think the better outcome for cycling fans is that Netflix wins the bid and the cable channels get spun off because then their existing business will be more important to the overall bottom line. But who the gently caress knows anymore lmao
