I think it's probably time for a new OP, we're in a golden age and hopefully this season brings new fans. I'm happy to do it in the next week if no one else wants but my knowledge of women's teams is lacking so if someone would be willing to do an effort post on them that would be cool and good.

in other news the Giro boss is shocked that turning the 2022 Giro route into a bad imitation of a Tour de France route has caused a bunch of people to target the Tour de France instead

i'd suggest going to Bianchi blue but they dropped Bianchi for Giant because apparently bikes aren't allowed to have colors on them anymore

they basically always have been, the World Tour itself is a problem when so much of cycling is heavily regional. hence the old days when Euskatel would have to send teams to cobbled races despite having basically nobody suitable for them

I can't decide if: they want smaller squads (only count the top 10 riders from a team) and also want those riders to go to every race possible (1.1 one day races being worth more than a TdF stage) or they want teams to be even larger and more specialised (absolutely stack your GC train and gently caress everything else in the tours, final position is the only thing of value, points for the doms are irrelevant as they won't be in your 10 top-scorers) with the breakaway riders being sent elsewhere (more efficient to send your potential stage winners off to ride 10 smaller races instead).

Yeah you're probably right with the timing, but I also don't expect to see many teams with the new groupsets anyway given all the shortages and lack of availability so far

Legal requirement in France to be vaccinated if you want to compete, so the big names are going to be 100%.

Quite surprising as well at this point given the studies showing long term negative effects from covid in athletes. Not that they are any more rational than anyone else really actually, there's plenty of pseudoscience in sport. Wonder what proportion are afraid of side effects affecting their training (e.g. GvA) compared to against vaccination. Would think more the former since cyclists take all sorts of pharmaceuticals in general

Probably people who've done a lot of reading about recovery rates of athletes when you stick a few pins or plates in, dope them to the gills and give them sustained and personalised physiotherapy. Knowing how long your elite athlete will be out of action is worth money.

Doesn't he have back issues from his legs being different lengths? Maybe the doctors can fix that up while they're in there and he'll come back better than ever.

Without complications, and with expensive medical care, bones are quicker and more predictable to fix & rehab vs any joint or ligament issue. The patella is worse. It does seem ridiculous to think he’ll race this year though. Ronan the everesting record holder from cyclingtips broke his lower legs bones and has them pinned with an external cage, but will be walking again shortly. https://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/everesting-world-record-holder-mclaughlin-suffers-broken-leg-in-weird-crash/
