Wait I thought he held it *exactly* by tying in points with Bennett but having a better general classification time?

Edit: Also, isn't the finish today for polkadot points? I think the green for the day is decided?

hilly stage so there are max 30 points for stage win (vs 50 on flat or 20 on high mountain).

Right but uphill finishes are double king of the mountain points instead of sprint points usually.

You guys are right. Guess I never noticed you got those points since there's never any sprinters in the top 20 of those stages anyway.

I guess we'll know all the results once the stage starts? Cause I expect any positives won't be starting today.

Have to say I am a little surprised that amid all that was going on not a single rider caught Corona. Wonder what next week will look like though.

I think Jumbo needs to find another tactic besides murder train if they want to put Pogacar to the sword. Yes, Pogacar gets isolated as a result, but it doesn't matter a loving bit when he can pretty easily come over Roglic at the end and take time or bonus seconds. Roglic is clearly afraid to attack Pogacar too early, because I guarantee Pogacar would counter-attack a completely isolated Roglic. Come on Jumbo, send Sepp up the road and give him a flyer to either win the stage or serve as a bridge for Roglic to safely attack Pogacar.

If Pogacar can just chip a few more seconds the next couple stages then he doesn't even need to launch a big attack. Hell, status quo is probably fine. I really think he can grab the current gap in seconds from Roglic in the TT.

Do they need to though? Roglic has 40 seconds on Pogacar still. He can just Cadel Evans it up behind Pogacar the whole time and all he needs to do is stay within 30-40 seconds in the time trial, depending on how much more bonus time Pogacar racks up.

E: I am dumb and did not read your whole post. Apparently Pogacar is a TT specialist or something? To me it's at least up in the air as riders in yellow can sometimes do exceptional things, especially in time trials. See Alaphilippe last year.

You can make pretty good money betting on Pogacar as GC winner right now. Roglic gives x1.25 times your money back where Pogacar gives x3.75.

Yeah there's also the whole 'rider who got injured in the first week of the season but then on their first race back smashed it' thing that crops up more often than you'd think so there's prob something there. Doubt it will change much going forward though because sponsors are not going to be happy if the big names of a team only show up twice a year.

OTOH sponsors love when you win the Tour. It's definitely why there's usually been a team reserving a rider for the Tour.

The worst thing about the doping spectre over this sport is that I can't watch a performance like that without wondering. Beyond the TT does Pogacar even have a supporting team this year?

Good to see porte on the podium finally, the year before he returns to working for someone else lol

If you're pessimistic enough about doping they are all on it so all the riders he beat as well.

Every Grand Tour should have at least 2 TTs and 1 Group TT

Just axe some boring flat stages if you're short of days

Okay so there is no way they can now keep Covid under control for the remaining two weeks is there? I'm sure they might impotently try but this is basically the massively crowded events of early march in sports form right?

I was expecting this at the Tour but I guess they got lucky, and the Giro did not. I think cycling is just an exceptionally unsuitable sport for a pandemic.

We're also just deeper into the second wave. But I'm not convinced the Tour was a 100% safe totally responsible thing to do. There were huge crowds and there was zero mask compliance and distancing.
