peanut- posted:drat, if there's one thing everyone wanted from MSR it's for there to be even more of it. For what it's worth, they didn't make it longer for shits and giggles. (At least) one of the communities that the race normally passes through refused to let it pass through, so they had to find an alternate route. Which makes the profile look pretty untypical for MSR:  If you see that profile in a GT, you know the pure sprinters are not gonna be there. I don't want to be cautiously optimistic for a good MSR, but let's see what happens

I think it's a combination of everything you said. In terms of the age of the season, we're at the stage where riders still inexplicably do somersaults into sewage ditches because they've forgotten how to ride. In terms of calendar and weather, we're supposed to be deep in the post-Tour hole where everyone would normally take a breather. Now that hole is filled with back to back monuments and basically three concurrent GT preparations. And there's probably more problems with course organization, too, since everything was cobbled together at comparatively short notice.

Jens Voigt (who's commentating for German Eurosport) just called the entire race, and I think he's right. That's our breakaway for the day. e: now he misread the clock counting up since the start of the race as the gap clock. To be fair, though, I don't know why they're showing that thing

I really need to complain about the race clock some more. They usually only show it when an hours ticks over (and then not in the corner), or after the race is finished. Every time I look at the screen now, something deep in my brain goes "race over? but 20 km to go???". Who comes up with this poo poo
