Remco won 1min over everyone else except Ganna at a 15km time trial in San Juan lol

He had teammates left, Stybar was in the leading group and fell back to help him catch up. Still super impressive.

In other superhuman young bike lad news, van der Poel became CX world champion again. He basically rode away from everyone at the start and they never saw him again. 1min+ gap before the race was halfway lol

Here, have Remco riding away from Landa and Carapaz like they're loving toddlers.

oh gently caress that's absolutely horrifying. I can't believe Groenewegen hasn't been DQ'd yet, Sagan got thrown out of the tour for way less. It's not like this is the lad's first incident either.

I loved how Bol was screaming across the finish line giving goddamn everything while WvA was all "this is maybe 10% of my power, mortal"

Seemed to me more like he slipped out of his pedal or something, I saw him adjusting it a couple of hundred meters before.

I love show WvA is 21st in GC and 7th for the green while riding his rear end off for the team all tour long. Roglic seems to have a ton of energy left so jumbo-visma definitely could have gone for the double yellow-green. Oh well.

I also liked how Dutch TV commentators said he looked "very weak" yesterday and "got dropped very early on", I wanna have whatever these guys are smoking

De Gendt gonna take off and do another lunatic 150km solo, I can feel it.

Ok he probably won't but you just know he wants to.

I still don't know what I'm supposed to be looking at. He'd be a turbo idiot if he doped up for a CX season he doesn't care about any more after the road season he does care about is already over though.

Apparently the riders union is planning a strike after yesterday's events but it's not clear what exactly they will be doing (likely waiting for 1 min after the start and then starting off really slowly).

David Lappartient on the other hand has gone on record saying the course and roads were absolutely perfect and it was all because of too much nervousness in the peloton. Prick.

serious gaylord posted:

I mean he's right tbf. Not a single crash yesterday was due to the course, it was all down to rider error.

They all knew the descent was there and they all decided to try going through it 6 wide. Thats a decision that the riders and DS in the car made. The GC teams could have backed out and left space for the sprint trains. Lotto Soudal and Quickstep were on the front from 30k to go but they had 4 GC teams next to them for that entire period.

Thomas crashed due to inattention.

Roglic crashed because he tried to push past a Sprint train and ran out of road.

Pogacar crashed because a rider didn't use his brakes.

Ewan crashed because he overlapped his front wheel having a row with Sagan.

Unless you're going to do something like take GC times from 30k out it won't change.
I dunno... you're right in that it mainly is rider/team leader error, guys being told in their earpiece they need to get to the front, etc, everything becomes far too nervous because of that.
Still, having smaller roads, descents and weird kinks in the road right at the end doesn't help. There would still be accidents if they're riding in a six-lane highway, sure, but I'm 100% certain they would be more rare.

My main problem is Lappartient's attitude tbh. His whole "we couldn't do anything, it's impossible, nay PREPOSTROUS even that we as an organisation carry any responsibility in this, it's the dumb riders who are bad and dangerous" schtick is p gross. No there is no instant perfect fix, but they can at least try instead of just ignoring riders and doing nothing.

WvA at 1:48, Lutsenko at 4:38, Urán at 4:46, everyone else at least 5 mins up after the first mountain stage. Lmao.

Well at least if he kept going he was guaranteed at least a silver instead of dropping back, letting another group catch up and having no certainties at all. He probably made the right decision this race. But yeah Remco seems like a very sore loser and has a lot of racecraft yet to learn. Lad is still only 21 years old though, that's easy to forget sometimes.
