Newbie question after reading some of the olympic thread posts. I remember there was a stage at the end of the first week of the Tour where Wout van Aert lost like 20 minutes in the GC. Would he have maybe done that on purpose to get some freedom to win stages or was it just a bad day?

New American cycling fan here (started watching during the 2020 season). Would someone give me a primer on doping in modern cycling? How firm is the “cheating” line, and is everybody actively crossing it? Do fans even care? I can’t tell if the Slovenian sauce jokes are serious or not.

Is Alaphilippe still injured? Why wouldn’t you take your cool French star to the Tour de France?

Quick question before the Tour: In terms of pro sports how popular is cycling in Europe? I’m assuming football is far and away #1 but are there countries where cycling is the #2 or 3 sport? If someone could make an analogy to American pro sports that would be great.

goddamn Pogacar

There’s a not insignificant chance that Pog actually had covid given that his teammates had it. We’ll never know though

Ease up, no disrespect intended. This has been the most exciting race I’ve seen, and the two of them are both absolute champions. Clearly pogacar is not ill. That was trying to be a “hmm no positive tests before the Superbowl lol” but for uci/the race organizers.

Parkhotel has a nice jersey. Canyon SRAM also looks surprisingly good in motion.

That random chicane just before the gravel really threw off the peloton

Easy win for van vleuten. How connected are the Movistar mens and womens teams? Could get really awkward around the office.

Man if I’m the GCN highlights guy I would, I don’t know, make it seem like I watched the video before doing the commentary? Do more than one take?

Could someone explain the situation where Spanish cycling isn’t letting former Zaaf cyclists ride La Vuelta? I’m getting this all from twitter headlines but Zaaf wasn’t paying its riders? Why would you stick up for a company that can’t make payroll?

For some reason two different free digital channels are showing the giro on my Samsung TV. Shout out to both beIN sports xtra and fubo sports network.

You’re in luck because Paris-Roubaux Femmes and La Vuelta Feminina were both great races this year so watch those replays. Voxwomen is a site that only covers women’s cycling. Just like founder Anthony McCrossan it’s solid but dry. And then posters here don’t like them because they’re dicks, but Lantern Rouge does the same YouTube recaps for the women’s races as the men.

What makes you say real contenders? Won’t it just be a Vollering and van Vleuten duel?

Asgreen said after he wished the break had more like 7-8 riders, but I totally think an 8 rider breakaway would have hosed it up.
