Feels Villeneuve posted:the stereotypical American thing and inadvisably try to become a GC rider. Lance Armstrong's biggest crime IMO was "transitioning" into a GC rider rather than just continuing to win cool one-day races a la his 1993 worlds. Cycling in the USA probably would be smaller, but immensly cooler.

wooger posted:Weak. You’d have thought they’d find sponsors easily, and the budget for the whole shebang would be in easy reach of any random tech mogul in SF. I bet the per-kilometer cost for a pro race in the USA (road closure, EMT / Cops / etc) is at least 20 times what it is in Euroland. And compared to that cost (FREE) in the oil dictatorship companies....

He kind of all but accused Pogachar (and Rogla by extension) of being on the gas in one of the TdF interviews. You can tell he’s had trouble keeping a good mindset for a while

This "new" (not new) tactic of the climby sprinter trains vs the fat sprinter trains going from 50km out is very entertaining. Like watching groups of dudes attempt to push their heavy stone idols up a hill as part of some ancient celebration or something.

Tulsa Tough is streaming all weekend long at usacrits.tv Currently watching a cat 3 race with Frankie Andreu announcing! The pro races are going to be good, round one in the Justin Williams vs Travis McCabe critbeef. And there we have it: a crash and some guys yelling at each other. tylertfb fucked around with this message at 22:38 on Jun 11, 2021 |

And now the Masters 40+ race starts. Gauranteed this is the most doped up bike race since the Algarve

accipter posted:Can someone explain the #critbeef to me? Justin Williams was amateur crit champ in 2019. Travis McCabe was pro crit champ in 2019. McCabe had a contract with ISN for 2020, Williams runs his own team, L39ion. Neither raced much in 2020 due to COVID, McCabe ended his ISN contract and now races for the (Amateur) Best Buddies squad. L39ion moved up to ProConti for 2021 but Justin isn’t actually signed to the team so he could maintain his amateur status and keep wearing the amateur us champ jersey. Because COVID cancelled the 2020 champs, both racers got to keep their jersey until this year. Shortly before the season started, Best Buddies posted a pic of a new signing to Instagram with the caption “This changes everything”. Justin replied in the comments: “lol, it changes nothing “ and it started a lot of trash talking in the comments, with McCabe insinuating that Justin’s national champs jersey was a fake since McCabe was the pro champ. It’s mostly internet trash talk and a little bit of pro-wrestling style hype. On the cycling tips podcast last week they said that the engagement on all their crit posts were through the roof, so that’s good. L39ion dusted everybody in last weekends Tulsa Tough races, and were looking good to take the win at Pro Nats just now but a last lap crash wrecked the field and some pro mtb guy won and is now the national crit champ.

Withnail posted:I just watched the overhead once, it looked to me like Sagan took Ewan off his line a little and when Ewan tries to correct back to the left he catches Merlier's wheel. If you go back a little further, I think Sagan was securely on Merlier's wheel, and Ewan was barging in trying to knock him off. Your own front wheel is 100% your own responsibility, so from my POV this crash is on Ewan.
