I love that show.

My preferred watching mode for that is to watch basically up to around season 7 and then stop. That's about when the mytharc for the show goes completely off the rails. Seasons 7, 8, and 9 still have some ok stuff, but don't expect the core plot to make an iota of sense or be at all compelling.

It’s a great show season 1-7. There’s little of value beyond season 7. A few ok episodes in season 8-9, but not enough to justify its existence.

Some of the really good episodes are among the best things ever produced for TV, in my opinion.

The worst episodes (including the recent series finale) are some of the worst things ever made.

My wife and I were looking for a fun show to watch after dinner to blow off steam and didn’t require to much investment. We started watching X-files a few weeks ago and are about halfway through season 2 at this point. It’s really funny when I remember the plot of the episodes halfway through because I either saw the episode when it originally aired or because I’ve read/seen the source material upon which the episode was based. Also, the episode in the first season that is just a straight rip off of The Thing is just hilarious.

After tapeworm men, chupacapras and beefy alien hitmen the final season's SUPER SOLDIERS were such a lame enemy. They literally called them SUPER SOLDIERS with a straight face.

If I was doing a rewatch of X-Files again I'd keep a running total of how many times Fox "Butterfingers" Mulder loses his sidearm, and Scully has to save his scrub rear end

I always like the episodes with Michael McKean as the sleazy Area 51 guy

I'm on 5 I think. He saved her once from the vent crawler, and she saved him once when he lost his gun and almost got eviscerated by Jersey Devil girl.

My coffee warned me about it.

I remember the episode with robotic insects and how it switched between people being hysterical/halucinating that poo poo and the real conspiracy stuff.

Such a fun meta ep, that show owns hard.

That episode has some good mulder moments. Dancing in his underwear in front of a mirror. Waking up to his not-wife yelling at him for having porn on.

My main memory of X-Files is it was the first show I stopped watching through choice. It got far too into the conspiracy stuff and I just didn't care. Realised I was watching out of habit rather than any actual enjoyment of the show.

First season and monster of the week episodes were good, though.

Were-monster and "the lost art of forehead sweat" were all time greats. I also really liked the Sushi robot restaurant one, the one with Haley Joel Osmond.

That’s the one with Luke Wilson as the sheriff. Whenever Scully talks to him he’s dreamy Luke Wilson, when it switches to Mulder’s pov he’s a goober with giant buck teeth.

I think the first handful of episodes of x-files holds up as good, solid sci-fi. Skinner is the man. But it really doesn't take long before the show jumps the shark and they're hunting invisible elephants and chasing poop monsters. Scully literally gets abducted by aliens and yet still tells Mulder he's being unreasonable on later episodes when he suggests that maybe aliens are relevant to whatever they're investigating. I never finished the 2nd season because it got too dumb, and I can't imagine how silly the later seasons become.
