As long as your PC has some way to connect to the USB-C cable that comes with the Quest, you can install Virtual Desktop and run link over wifi.

Tea for god isn't really working for Quest right now, so I tried out another room-scale game:

TraVRsal has 4 different scenarios to go through. A.I. Takeover is the most like an actual game, but they're all worth trying.

The only issue I had is that my available area is just big enough to fit - is there a way to define a playsize area with tracking enabled but turn off or minimize the guardian graphics?

Did Steam VR launch OK? The first couple times on a system that hadn't run VR before I had issues with SteamVR and OpenVR prerequisites getting installed and launched properly. Also try launching from Virtual Desktop's own Games tab, not just running the application from Windows.

Another reason to just buy games on Steam so you can play them on whatever headset.

A new version of Tea for God came out a couple weeks ago:
https://void-room.itch.io/tea-for-god
Fixed the Quest 2 graphics and simplified some mechanics - I have some idea what's going on now.
Plus I see there's also a SteamVR version - does that play any better than the native Quest one?

What are your favorite 2 player coop games we can try together?

So far, I want to try:
- Tabletop Simulator
- Dungeon Knight
- Maybe some survival mode in Pavlov? (I'm really looking for games to play with just the two of us though.)
- VR chat

The Index isn't my first headset so I'm familiar with the basics already.

I haven't tried it but Sam & Dan - Floaty Flatmates is free ("donationware") and has good reviews:

Warning to anybody playing I Expect You to Die (Steam version) on the Quest - don't be like me and play through half of the game with the wrong control scheme.
If you start up in Virtual Desktop, it will detect Vive controllers instead of Touch - I had to start up with Link instead. The controls in this game are finicky enough on the Quest even when it's set up right.

Guess I'll actually buy a game through the Quest store instead of Steam VR. Also the dogs and cats won't come near me anymore because I've hit them so many times while playing Gorn. Otherwise, what a goddamn fantastic experience it's been.

Don't forget you have the option of wireless Steam VR through Virtual Desktop - I've barely used my link cable since I got it. Even if the cable is superior in a couple ways, it's great to be unattached.

It's inferior to modded Beat Saber in most ways, but:
1) It's free
2) You just open it up in a web browser, no installation
3) It has a reasonable sampling of songs from beatsaver.com already selected

My mom was fascinated by my Quest so we're getting her one for Christmas. What are some mom-friendly games that I can preload into it? She tried Supernatural and liked it but getting her a subscription would entail also purchasing her a VPN subscription and then teaching her how to use a VPN. Would be nice to find a rhythm game with music that she can appreciate, but all the rhythm games I can think of are very... electro sounding, or require sideloading (which I have no plans to teach her) to load other songs. Actually, it probably doesn't have to be a rhythm game--I think she'd appreciate any mom-friendly cardio experience.

I'm also looking for relaxing games and experiences that she can try, like the one that came out recently that just lets you walk around 3D reconstructions of various real world locations.

For song variety without modding, you can always try https://moonrider.xyz/ It's certainly not perfect, but it's free. Don't forget that you can search for songs that aren't in the main list.

Last chance to activate a Quest 2 referral before it goes back down from $60 to $30:

Steps:

Factory reset the device by holding down the power and volume buttons and/or wipe it remotely by unlinking it at https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/

Accept the referral from clicking on someone’s link:

After checking some, there don't appear to be any PC mods of the game, and adding custom songs is easy enough on both platforms. It isn't cross-buy either.

Facebook's main interest with VR has to be getting a leg up on a potential social media platform of the future. If someone else implemented the "metaverse" then that would be a threat to their dominant position. That's not to say they won't get value out of extra data collection that falls in their lap from headsets, but it's silly to think that is their primary motivation.
