just teasing face/mouth tracking as being in development for next years hardware, it sounded like they will launch at a much higher price point so the quest 2 will probably stay relevant for several years.

aaagh dammit i managed to sun damage my quest 2 i put the headset down the wrong way on the couch yesterday night so the lenses faced a window and today the morning sun must have passed over there because i have a faint white streak in one eye  at least it's not catastrophic damage, it's only annoyingly visible during loading screens on black backgrounds but here's a reminder to be careful now that spring/summer is around the corner. i'll try to force myself to put it away in a drawer when it's not in use from now on.

having a facebook account just for the quest shouldn't be a big deal if you go through the privacy settings and ensure nobody can search for you or interact with you in any way i've almost forgotten about mine after i turned off notifications from the main facebook app

I hosed up the display in my quest 2 with some stray sunlight (just a minor flaw but enough that it really bothers me) so that's my excuse to upgrade and pawn the old one off on my family. Ordered!

Removing the passthrough charge port on the elite strap to try selling more charge docks is such a dick move. I'm going to wait for a third party solution before I upgrade from the regular strap now

Ugggh the standard strap sucks! My first attempt at printing adapters failed, trying again after flipping the part upside down to hopefully get a cleaner print surface on the bit that connects to the quest 3. It will be interesting to see how quickly the software evolves, when I got mine out of the box and powered it on the passthrough video was pretty underwhelming with my phone screen being completely unreadable. But after it installed a firmware update and rebooted the passthrough became much clearer, less wobbly and the phone screen was perfectly readable through the headset. The real wow factor was the new lenses though. It's my first time trying pancake lenses and I can hardly believe how sharp they are across your entire field of vision compared to fresnels!

Upside down was definitely the way to print those adapter plates, first attempt on the left and the upside down attempt on the right They popped on pretty easily, if you have to force them they're probably not printed right. These will just have to be a temporary thing until an updated third party strap is easily available because the Quest 3 doesn't understand what to do with the elite strap battery. It thinks it's plugged in to power all the time and doesn't react to the charge connector at the back of the old elite strap. But at least I can use the Quest without giving myself a headache now.

I hosed up my quest 2 with stray morning sunlight and it made me extremely paranoid about the same thing happening to the quest 3  I wish they had some kind of shutter mechanism to protect the displays, I found a pretty convenient 3d printable lens cap for the quest 2 after it was already too late.
