There are some unfun stages in the beat saber campaign. Max arm movement amount was bad enough but Max combo is just not fun. I don't want to be failing because I hit the notes in a rhythm game too well.

I had to keep repeating in my head "look at combo count" and "15 is too much" like every 3 seconds to get through the level

So based on a couple videos I found online, I modded my Rift S facemask to have soft leather instead of foam. The only folks I could find online that did the same thing used VRCover leather pads, but I used some cheaper (but seems to be nice quality) Vive pads off of Amazon.

I’m happy to share some screenshots and URLs if anyone wants to do the same thing.

It’s a nice improvement (no squishy/sweaty foam), comfortable, easy to clean, and most importantly it was super easy to do.

Interested, no one offers any replacements yet and the foam keeps me from using it more than it should

Worth switching from Rift S to quest? Ive had to RMA our Rift S back three times due to display port unplugged failure. They all have worked great for a month then died. Granted with three kids and all there friends our Rift S gets used at least 12 hours a day everyday till it dies. Im assuming its the cable from rift computer failing, but who knows? Just thinking switching to quest and see if that works any better since virtual desktop came out.

I switched from Rift S to quest, definitely worth it imo. so much nicer to not have the cable and even with the sideloaded thing, is somehow less janky than the rift s ends up being with all the "connected" errors

Same, but I’m currently happy I went with the rift s over the quest. Even if I get why the quest has a laundry list of advantages. The rift s is already quite a bit heavier than the PSVR and makes me uncomfortable after a much shorter period. I don’t think I’d deal well with the added weight. And playing untethered would be great but almost all of the games I want to play require a PC.

Right now I’m happy with using this until a possible lighter version of the quest comes out. VR headsets seem to have a pretty ok resale value so I’ll probably just sell it and get something new in a year or 2.

the real deal is buy a rift s when they're new, play with it for a year, watch the pandemic start, sell rift s for above retail, buy a quest.

Quest is waaaaay worth it over a Rift S imo.

I guess I’m just not sure what the benefit would have been for me if I’m not interested in the standalone games and only want to use it for PCVR.

I get that the S is sort of a dead end and the Quest is the future of Oculus. But at this point in time the weight felt like a big selling point to me and games running straight from the HMD has zero appeal.

Although the OLED screen and promise of better software support almost had me. As of right now the Rift S feels like exactly what I was looking for TBH. I won’t lie I do have a tinge of “maybe I made the wrong decision” feels, but at the same time I really have few complaints about the S. It seems good.

I am fully aware that in the long term I probably didn’t choose the better platform but I figure by the time I think about upgrading there will be even more options out there.

Running wirelessly is itself worth it. Maybe if you live in some place you can do some crazy cable suspension business where it doesn't bother you, this isn't really an upgrade. Virtual Desktop is real good, and you can always still use a cable if you need to(wasn't an option when I decided on Rift S, now that Link is a thing, it's definitely +points to quest. If you dont like Beat Saber or Thrill of the Fight or the library of quest games that you can run anywhere(another room of your house, your grandmams house), then ok.

Plus Quest seems to be the only product Oculus is interested in supporting further. Rift S still doesn't have finger tracking, which was just a free update to the Quest.

If they were price differentiated and you needed to pay extra to get the standalone capability(i.e. Rift S was cheaper) maybe it could be worth it, but at the same price, in my opinion, the ability to be used without a wire is definitely worth making that decision, the fact oculus will support only one of these products is just bonus on the cake.

Not having a Rift S also removes a lot of the jank problems i had from "connected/not connected/usb detection broken/displayport not detected"

Are you saying they're going to update the VR down the line for Hitman once sales are good or other VR titles? Because I'll bet dollars to donuts that the former won't be happening. You loving swear.

Are you honestly trying to compare purpose built VR devices with full, accurate 6DOF individual hand and finger tracking to a standardized flat-gaming controller that was repurposed to just get by in VR? What.

They've already said all three games are in this one?? https://www.forbes.com/sites/joepar...r/#34bc8209b9c0

I've only played NMS in VR and the UI is really bad, enough to make me bounce from it. I wonder if it works better in flat and it was just a bad conversion.
This is me. I waited until the first "refresh" when it was supposed to be a good game, and I played for a bit and bounced hard.

Zaphod42 posted:

Yes, which goes back to my complaint that NMS isn't fun to start in VR, you need to already have a save with many upgrades before you swap to VR. Which is bad design. So no, that's not the only issue.

Totally agree here. My question is though, is it worth playing flat to build up the poo poo and switch to VR?

I dunno man, I think you're drastically overestimating the number of people who own multiple VR headsets yet are also extremely concerned about having to spend $25 to buy the title again on their preferred HMD.

First-world problems, huh.

Also, the problem goes away soon enough because Oculus already said they're no longer developing PC-centric wired VR headsets, so the Rift S is the last of its line.

Also, I pointed out a solution. There's a website listing all the titles. Scroll down all the way. Done.

https://webscraper.io/#landing-panel-start-using-web-scraper
This will also automate scrolling all the way down and can extract all the titles into whatever format OP would prefer.

No release date on Reverb 2 yet though right?

Has anyone done this for Quest 2 and Vive Audio strap? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4622970

I have a Quest 1, but I got all sorts of comfort stuff for the original strap before finally getting the DAS. It's definitely the most comfortable option for me. I got a returned one for $73 plus like $10 in adapters and it's the most comfortable strap solution. I'd go it for sure. you can also attach your own battery to the back to weight-balance.

These adapters are different so I can't vouch for those though.

The DAS also some kind of spring action where you can pull it on and off without tightening it but also without stretching something, which doesn't seem to be something in the Elite strap going off YouTube videos?

Just gave it a shot, works really well. Pretty low latency, audio sounded fine. That's only with me just kind of barely looking at it while wearing the headset though, I don't live with anyone else to watch live gameplay.

I've cast to my phone and to my NVIDIA Shield (Chromecast). Anything that supports Chromecast should be a valid casting target.

I think you might have misunderstood the question/didn't visit the link?

This is casting to a browser tab which I don't think is normally a Chromecast target? Not a regular Chromecast user so IDK.

wolrah posted:

Have they improved the lag or at least made it so you can keep the original sound in the headphones?

I tried to set up my GF's Quest to cast while playing Beat Saber because she wanted to show if off to her parents but for whatever stupid reason it muted the built in audio so I was stuck with lagged audio over Chromecast, which made the game pretty much unplayable.

Obviously video streaming will have some inherent lag, but the local audio should still work.

It did not mute local audio when casting to the oculus.com/casting tab

Have you played Payday 2 non-VR before?

There's a lot to learn. But its Left4DeadVR, can you imagine why anybody would want that? lmao. Its not hard to understand.

It has shooting that is as good as Onward or Pavlov or whatever else, but it has literally 100x the content and polish and detail and budget.

Its also a fun co-op game that's easy to jump into with your non-VR friends. Struggling to think of literally any other VR game you can say that about. Squadrons I guess.

I have this problem, but have played Payday 2 before.

Except a long time ago, so I'm not familiar with anything anymore. But I still have a really high level! It kept putting me in high difficulty matches and I didn't have time to figure out how the VR worked before dying.

You will need glasses again when you're older, but even people who had naturally 'perfect' vision will need them. The muscles around your eye start giving up and relaxing so stuff close to you is not in focus, so reading glasses are common.
