I've been buying games on the oculus store thinking I could play them steam, but it's the opposite isn't it.

Oh well, I'm going to a beach house for a week soon and introducing some friends to vr while I'm there... it would be good to be portable.

No, I got an Oculus quest 2 a few days ago.
If I get games on the Oculus store it loads to the device and I can take them with me.
If I get them on Steam I am bound to my computer/house.

I guess I'm talking about if you can "cross-buy"

Or am I going to have to buy twice if I want it for use outside the house?

Yesterday was my first major beat saber day.

The wife loves it, but drunken barfight or moving via stick makes her sick instantly.

I am so far seemingly immune to motion sickness I tested a few things to try and trigger it even.

I spent most of the day frustrated that the mod manager custom songs weren't showing up until I realized this morning I was launching the quest 2 beat saber app somehow through virtual desktop instead of the steam version

I mean, that's the one concrete thing it has over virtual desktop from the small amount I've researched.

It runs HL Alyx fine for me, but I'm standing 3 foot from a wifi 6 router and my computer is an absolute beast.

The ceiling monster got me about 30 min in because I got cocky and I didn't have the pistol equiped because I was using both hands to feed them crates and barrels and it scared me and I hit my ceiling fan.

Personally I like airlink because desktop clicks work, with virtual desktop it would take 3-10 VR clicks to launch or minimize a program.

They're still probably ironing some kinks out though.

Is anyone else having trouble running SteamVR games over Air Link?

I'm following the general advice of adding them to my oculus library and launching them from there but they generally fail to launch properly.

I launch the game, my oculus home disappears, I go into a void for a minute, then oculus home launches again running like poo poo. When I pull up my desktop I can see that the game has loaded and there's a window but it's not displaying to my headset.

I've also tried launching them from Steam on my desktop but that doesn't help.
Double tap/tap the right controller menu button?
It's not trying to run off an integrated graphics on your cpu is it? That's apparently a thing. "Windows scheduling" to fix.

It does that to me sometimes, but it always works eventually.

I did have a VRchat room recently that was hard to get over 30-45fps (RTX 3080) but others were crashing and stuff so, I dunno.

Usually the headset will show up as a sound device under the sound settings, and I can easily switch between my audio interface or my laptop speakers or the headset, but even after restarting it now and fixing the link cable issue, I still have the audio problem.
Airlink or steam VR modded with
OVR Advanced Settings have their own audio switchers that you may have set to external speakers or PC.

Airlink has made the audio switcher in

I get better audio corded through my pc, it's simulated 7.1, headphone amp and all that.

Does make me wonder how many of these people that had problems with them breaking tried to do the same thing with it when they broke.
Mine broke when I tightened it to snug. I used it for a month.

The tightener is the same as a hardhat and people use those for years and never have anything break.

:iiam:

Bonus: hardhats expire (mostly from UV exposure) there will be a month/year clock dial on the brim.

I've never been issued one that wasn't expired, but they'll keep fine if stored out of the sun. The nice one I bought for myself came in date.

I've been using Airlink since it came out on the quest 2. I decided to give the newest beta Virtual Desktop with the "space warp" a try and I got 5-10 fps worse in a crowded "VRChat rave"

38-48 Airlink
28-38 Virtual Desktop
Upon further reading with me having it set to 90fps hitting 45 fps and creating false frames with "warp" is ideal when you aren't in a simple room by yourself.

If your headset is getting hot, do you have it on 120fps mode? I stick with 90 because I don't get that near enough anyway so I decided to use less battery and sweat less.

The guy who ordered the $90 cable, if it was too late.

Keep it and use it to charge your headset while playing (on Airlink)

People frown on it for some reason, but I use $400 headphones over my quest 2 and the battery only lasts 2-3 hours and will not stay charged with (regular) link.

If I run my 15' cable direct from the charger I have plenty of room to move about and even spin some and the headset stays charged forever.

Terrible for longterm battery life but It's especially good for seated pcvr.

I only bought oculus games to demo for some friends away from my house, I'm whole hog into SteamVR now, screw Facebook.

Edit: Also I use https://sourceforge.net/projects/hesuvi/
On quality headphones to simulate 7.1 Instead of using "gamer headphones" built in DAC

I switched my quest 2 to 90 fps for steam VR, but I couldn't hit it all the time in vrchat, so it would flip between 90 and 45.

Now that I have that new amd 5800x3d I can hit 90 more consistently (I have a 3080 as well)

It may be less jarring to pick a target you can hit all the time because if you can't it will half it and time warp it or whatever.

E: (To be clear I plug it into the wall charger, I never seemed to have unlimited charge using it as a link cable.)

The higher you set your fps the hotter it will be is all I can think of. Mine is a bit warm, but never hot.

If you can't hit your target frame rate it will hit half of that to keep you from getting sick from studders presumably. I wish it was more granular.

I'm reading now vrchat may cap at 90 without link cable, I need to experiment I ought to be able to get higher fps in many things.

Your guide seems legit, but every time I've tried any sort of windows debloater stuff on and off over the last 4 years or so it's ended up breaking small things in very mysterious ways.

I'm a 100% stock windows man now after decades of tweaking and janitoring. (Besides chocolatey gui, power toys style things)
I just try to keep everything clean, minimalist and updated as much as possible.

i.e.(I don't need OneDrive or Cortana at all but I'm scared to remove them personally with my experiences) etc

If you had a "debloated" windows image to boot into just for VR that's one thing, but I think if you do anything else on that PC you are going to have weird mystery problems that keep cropping up.

Edit: also isn't the ram sweet spot for 5800x3d 3200 or 3600 with tight timings, anything more helps with other processors but is loads more expensive and only like 1-2% difference for $100+ more

Everything has changed a bit since I seriously haunted VRchat, but some worlds are kid magnets more than others.

PC only worlds seem to skew older.

Remember if someone is being seriously annoying or racist or whatever you can block them easily, it took me awhile to get used to doing that, but some people deserve it.

I've found 3 discords that are cool to tool around in (two are private VRrave groups) and the other was a semi friendly British group.

Organically hitting it off with and friending a decent assortment seems just as good, but I'm not a very good tribe builder, I have to ride on others coattails for that.
