God damn it, you've got to be kind.
Sometimes I go for it on a low percentage chance (X-Com style) and have embarrassed my character many times. But there have been a few surprises where I somehow pulled it off.

Right now I'm pleased that I managed to steal the armor boots but concerned about what my partner might say if he ever sees me wearing them. :ohdear:

Came here to post about that. I just got through the first 2 areas and unlocked the second faction and I think it's pretty charming. It's like a fun mix of into the breach or advance wars and slay the spire, except way easier. Haven't had a lot of trouble not getting hit, and even then there's repeatable heals to go round and in most stages your summoned minions can die without consequence. Maybe the difficulty ramps up later on? Anyways it's still fun puzzling your turns together and improving your deck as you unlock more stuff.

Edit: Beat area 3 by assembling an infinite combo with my own brain juice. Absolutely unnecessary, but it felt satisfying. However, breaking the game this early makes me worry. I doesn't feel like there are any wrenches being thrown into my plans, so beyond not using what I came up with it's even harder to find any challenge in this.

Theres a lot of infiltration a base going on so you will eventually have to move in but in many cases you can do what you want to cover most of it. You will sometimes end up in buildings or bunkers that you weren't able to snipe clear, for sure, though.

If you want a game where you can set up a mile away and purely snipe a base, take a look at Sniper: Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 (silly name, yes). It has several missions where you do have to stealth a bit between stations but your main objectives are only obtainable by godlike sniping - you can't even physically get to the objective in question.

Don’t know if you mean CoD literally or figuratively - but Insurgency: Sandstorm has some fast paced modes (with others being slower/tactical). TTK is 1-2 shots but that may be too low if I misunderstood.

If Titanfall 2 mp hadn’t become borked I’d suggest that one too. Could be fixed now, but last I heard there was a massive hacking problem that hadn’t been fixed.

Stop for me, it's the claw!

Anyone playing Sniper Elite 5? It's a bit of a cross between MGS:V / Hitman / Splinter Cell (the later ones), but it doesn't step on the toes of any of them too much. The genre is stealth/espionage action more than hard-core sniping; there are things like bullet drop, wind resistance, noise consideration, scope/distance adjustment and a bit of heart rate management that come into it. It's absolutely meant to be played as a co-op game, but it's still pretty decent solo for a slower experience. Some of the locations are really well designed since it's set in WW2 France - Lots of big castles, cities and mountainside fields with military complexes built into them.

The big new addition is the invasion mode where an enemy sniper can come into your campaign mission to fight with the enemy, but after a certain amount of time you can use 'invasion phones' to pose as a german operative to track down their location. It encourages constant movement, and the invading player has abilities which let the AI triangulate the last known position of the player/s. It can be pretty tense or pretty hilarious, I've invaded a number of people who get killed before I even manage to reach them, and a few who accidentally killed themselves.

Some fights have been really insane. A person is legging it across an open field and you're holding a breath for each shot but the bullet velocity is just not enough at that range, and they get a chance to fire back so you need to duck down and move again. They manage to get behind cover so you need a new angle but that means going back inside and losing sight of them for a while; you put down a mine to cover one doorway but maybe they came in through a window? It'll be too long to defuse it now so you have to make do. Suddenly a grenade hits you from the other side and sticks, there's nothing you can do but you manage to turn around just in time to lift scope and pop the guy in the back of the head as he runs. You blow up while the bullet is in the air, and it's a draw.

I've been enjoying it. It's more of the same, but it is part 5 after all. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but each level consists of: find the high point, scout as much as possible, thin out defences from far away (the actual sniper part of the game I guess), then it becomes a lot more like a Hitman game where I creep around taking out enemies while trying to complete an objective.

If I were to call out stuff I don't like it's just that it's mostly unimaginative. The Hitman games offer more variation on how you want to approach problems. Then again: you get to shoot Nazis in the balls, the slow motion kill cams can be hilarious, and it's a fun game.

One small thing I like: for the weapons customization you get a list of how the customizations will change your weapon based strictly on a set of stats (like COD games do) but you also get a quick pros/cons summary that makes the decision of what stuff you prefer to use more obvious.

It's on Gamepass too.

So, I don't play the invasions, but I have played every Sniper Elite since 2, and I have to say, the jank of this one is really apparent. They did need to update the engine and such, but man I've seen things like 1) a one second or so delay between pressing the button to do thing like open a door or set off a fuse til the animation even starts playing 2) Enemies just literally falling straight through the floor out of scene 3) objectives displaying as failing when its not even remotely possible because I haven't gotten near enough to gently caress it up yet and it feels bad.

3 and 4 were great, hopefully 6 will iron some of this stuff out.

Also they really upped the detail on the internals of the people you shoot to the point that it's starting to pass from cartoony haha look at that Nazi's balls explode to I might be able to earn a nursing degree after this game, which I haven't decided how I feel about yet.

I'll be the negative guy and say I'm really not enjoying it compared to older versions. There is something very "paint-by-numbers" about it. The open world is pretty but very empty, and something about it just doesn't work, although I don't know what. It's maybe that the enemies are so obvious in their locations that it creates bland gameplay. Sure, you can try stealthily getting up close to everyone and taking them out silently, but why bother when the AI is so mind numbingly dumb that you can just pick them off from 100 meters away. I think maybe in the prior games there was a sense of the enemy doing something, whereas in this one they just stand around and wait for me to shoot them.

The open world is definitely a big issue though - there are wide open spaces of nothing happening, with optional objectives that seem to be bizarrely empty of actual risk. In the 1st mission one of the optional objectives is to destroy 4 AA guns, but these guns are entirely unmanned and unguarded - I just walked in and blew them up without so much as a single enemy bothering themselves.

Finally (maybe controversially?) there is a really weird, non-lethal aspect that's been added, in which you're granted extra XP for not killing Nazis. The game seems to go rather out of its way to give you all sorts of non-lethal rounds to avoid...killing Nazis...

Basically i'm glad it's on xbox game pass - i'd give it a pass otherwise.
