I'm having fun with The Tenants. Also out this week, and also fun, is Mr. Prepper, in which you are a prisoner in a fascist United States and are building a bunker system under your house. Your ultimate goal is to build a rocket and get the hell out of Dodge. If you play, always be sure to read your journal after getting a quest; there is information in the journal that isn't given in the quests.

The 10-mission, fully dubbed single-player Campaign will require all your skills as Commander of the Spacebase Startopia as you strive to create one of the most attractive trade and tourism destinations in the known universe.

Each of the three Decks will require your leadership skills, with the Sub Deck containing all of the Rooms vital to survival, while the Fun Deck focuses on your visitors and the flora and fauna found on the Bio Deck provides sufficient Resources for survival as well as a home to the graceful Dryads.

Prevail against your competitors, for you are not alone on the Space Station. Sabotage your opponents' economy or attack them with your Mech Units, conduct trade and beware of Space Pirates eager to board your Station.

The dynamic narrator AI “VAL” reacts to your decisions and is always at your side in both word and deed – and the occasional extremely unqualified comment.

So far it's making me want to reinstall the original, the humor/writing is not good. One of the aliens is always wearing boxers with hearts on it.

The gameplay itself is (so far, I'm in the tutorial level) Startopia with some twists. You put food dispensers in berths, for example.

I remember Startopia being utterly charming with a really nice art style. I really enjoyed the multiple decks and being able to make a nice garden area in the “greenhouse” as well as giant discos in the level below.

Did it have difficulty to it like you could kill off everyone? I can’t even remember.

The OG Startopia had difficulty in that you could make people deeply unhappy, and/or you could get into sickness spirals. It was never a hugely difficult game, but if you were careless or built a bad station everything could spiral into unhappy people/sick people leaving or not paying for things meaning you're broke meaning you can't really afford to dig yourself out of the hole you're in.

Also, if you kept the place dirty enough the adorable space cats who visit your station could eat them and infect aliens into becoming giant bug monsters. That was great.

God I love the OG Startopia.

I played the demo for Dandy Ace. It's not bad, but it does feel very much like a less satisfying Hades. The attack system, at least, is novel. You collect cards and can equip each one as either an attack or as a buff/modifier to an attack. You can also switch which card is assigned where on the fly, so there's room to experiment.

As I said, I didn't think it held up to Hades, but if it interests you, there's a demo. (Also, to the goon who said the quipping seemed annoying, you can turn that down or off.)

Unfortunately I think this was inevitable. Realmforge Studios is no Mucky Foot Productions, which had Bullfrog pedigree. It was doomed since Kalypso handed Startopia over the studio that made the Dungeons series, itself inferior in both gameplay and humor to Dungeon Keeper. Though it's inherently disastrous to entrust Germans with humor anyway.

You can avoid killing animals for the most part, if you don't mind never really getting any new gear or leveling up. Since most gear or skills are just useful for killing things better, you wouldn't need them anyway. Just walking around, exploring the environments and taking in-game photographs is a fairly valid playstyle.

Hell, you can avoid killing animals even if you're trying to kill animals! They hear you from miles away and avoid you like the plague. I do think a Pokémon snap style game with this environment would be more fun though, where you have someone judging your photos based on composition and level up/get money for new gear based on the pics you take.
