SkyeAuroline posted:Good to know. Does that do much about the "blocked by infrastructure" side, though? It does, kind of. If the whole footprint of a building isn’t silky smooth, the game conveniently adds an extra padding of smaller little dots on the wireframe that remind you how absolutely hosed you are for not leveling it first. These extra dots seem to exist purely to frustrate you. Sometimes you can kind of cheat these even if you can’t level something by placing the building first and then replacing the “blocking” infrastructure in exactly the same spot once it’s down. If two things are fighting each other but look like they should fit, try placingthem in the opposite order. And seeing the second thing to be placed is now happy. (Often the smaller thing/infrastructure is the offender- roads, power lines)

Rather than calling games good or not, how about just accessibility? 1 is appropriate for newcomers to management games, 2 for people who are familiar with the genre, 3 for the true "play this for the rest of your life and still never get good" games. That's probably less contentious because it's probably more objective than "good" and I think more useful for people looking for games.

Yeah it’s worth mentioning it doesn’t have a hunger meter or anything like that. You do need oxygen, but you start with an unlimited source of it and can make more, so that mostly exists to add some logistics challenge as you extend your oxygen network.

It is an plays out like an RTS, but no one person is controlling each faction because each unit is played by a human being player. So a person can just put research bits into the research building and pick the wrong non-meta thing, and the rest of the faction just has to deal with it. It is a World War 1.5 simulator between the not-colonist and the not-nazis. Every single gun must be made by a human player, every peice of scrap accessible is because a human being went out and performed digital labor for a bit. These nerd touched war weapons now have to be delivered by player to The Front where many human players grind bodies and bullets against each other in a Saving Private Ryan manner. These 3 principals intersect in a wild way. There is a thread, no big goon presence. It's like playing a rimworld pawn.

Sometimes, just attempting to place the building a few times will result in success, due to "nudging" the terrain into where it needs to be. This is especially helpful when the terrain is "owned" by other buildings and you cannot otherwise adjust it.

Anyone play Production Line : Car factory simulation? Any good? https://store.steampowered.com/app/591370/Production_Line__Car_factory_simulation/ Also, worth wishlisting is a game I've been testing out on steam called Timberborn. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1062090/Timberborn/ It's a beaver colony builder. The main challenge is that there is a drought every year, so you need to farm enough food/build up enough water supply to survive the dry season. worth checking out. I liked Production Line but it leans towards the Big Pharma space-management types of games, so it depends if you like that stuff or not. You get more space to play around with and a bit more on the business management end though compared to Big Pharma.

You get more space to play around with and a bit more on the business management end though compared to Big Pharma. Production line is much more spatial and logistic. You're going to time delivery of materials to unit operations to understand if you need more or more coming from a different direction. You're going to curse how the units fit together and scream spending money on a redesign. The business management isn't really interesting to me though compared to Big Pharma. The tech tree kind of sucks: there's a couple ways to go given the broad tree but there's pretty specific build orders to avoid gotchas where Big Pharmas teching can be very dynamic based on your raw material random attributes. Little Big Workshop is my favorite discrete manufacturing game because of the ability to do more dynamic cell design but I still have my reasons to go back to Big Pharma or Production Line.
