Seriously, you can see chunks of her brain and her nose falling in the air during the transformation panel jesus christ

There's just something about Denji's goofy rear end face as he gets horribly crucified that is hilarious to me. He's Wild E Coyate stumbling through every possible death trap and coming out unscathed since he's basically immortal. Gruesomely dying of something mundane like stepping on a nail from a dude playing dead, Beam and Denji's comments "you floating... amazing!", Kishibie nonchalantly glancing at the American dude who fell off the building totalling Kobeni's car, Kobeni's car being totalled, this manga is so morbidly funny. It's like a Tarentino movie. I really hope they are able to get the comedic timings right if they adapt this into an anime

Interesting that they need the help from a Primal devil, who are devils that are apparently way more powerful than the Gun Devil, to kill Makima. Raises the question of why can't Makima just kill the gun devil by herself and why does she choose to/have to report to those big wigs in Kyoto?

Violence should be a primal devil but maybe nowadays it's just so common and banal it lost it's power on the human mind

Yeah, violence has been super normalized. Cartoons have violence in them. Kids play-fight from a young age. People encourage controlled violence such as through competitive combat sports.

Darkness on the other hand still makes you feel uneasy even in modern society.

It's going to be something related to movies like the release of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1970s made the entire world collectively fear chainsaws or something since Fujimoto has such a hard-on for films especially Western ones

Dang, makes sense coming from the creator of Fire Punch that the art looks even better when everything is on fire

Also, from Santa’s reaction it seems more and more likely that the reason the chainsaw devil is so powerful is because other devils fear it

Though the upcoming Juju adaptation doesnt look too good, they just simplified the art and changed up the whole style of motion. its already looking not great.

I'm a bit more optimistic for the Juju adaption since it's by Mappa and there didn't seem to be much CGI from the trailer. But I choose Chainsawman as well.

The panels of the laundry hang drying is a nice touch to symbolize family. My boy Denji is growing up even if he doesn't realize/understand it.

It will be all the more tragic when everyone he cares about dies in the future since we all know that's where this is heading. That will probably be what triggers Denji opening that door

Denji is pretty much the perfect person to have the chainsaw power. His lovely upbringing means he has no fear of death or pain. Barring some exceptions, like that Darkness attack, his chainsaws seem to be capable of cutting through nearly anything. Not only that but by revving his heart cord engine the moment before he dies, he can self-revive, becoming a perpetual fightman machine as long as there's blood available. None of the other hybrids introduced thus far have this kind of ability, so they actively try to avoid death despite also having the ability to revive.

Santa couldn't comprehend Denji's strategy, which was basically kamikazing yourself to give big hugs, but it makes perfect sense really.

Yeah, it's a running theme of this little arc.

Quanxi makes it her life philosophy. Meanwhile, two of her fiends are the Eel, who continually tells people facts they don't want to know (like the sushi information), and Halloween, who destroys her enemies with knowledge overload.

That (and her news anchor story) all comes together with Yoshida's talk about how he figured out that there's something sketchy... but he's not sticking his nose in, to add up to end Kishibe's part of the arc with him refusing to take off his blindfold, because he doesn't want to know any more.

I love this and the theme of ignorance vs suffering is also personified by Aki. He's shown to be a good and emphatic person with a strong sense of justice and he's also beginning to question Makima's intentions. Due to his nature, I don't think he will choose to remain ignorant like Kishibe. And he's going to suffer for it, big time.

I think Aki has "lost" something in every arc that he's been in

Intro: lost his fight with Denji due to Denji's superior strategy
Bat: Gundevil flash back shown at the end of the arc
Eternity: Stabbed
Katana: Himeno
Bomb: Colleagues
International assassins: arm and more colleagues

there's also the Future devil in his eye that shows him the future/truth but they're always lovely

Denji isn't stupid but he was basically an uneducated and ignorant animal dude at the start of the series who was motivated purely by his basal instincts i.e. survival, hunger, lust, avoiding pain. It's fun and interesting to watch him learn how to fit into society and slowly develop his own code of ethics. For all her shadiness, Makima appears to be helping Denji by educating him about values and higher order concepts. Basically transforming him from a feral animal to human. Anybody's guess to what purpose though.

Contrast him to someone like Luffy who basically began the series with his principles fully developed. He spends the series defending his philosophy but it never really changes after he leaves for the Grand Line.

Biggest example would be Himeno's death. Luffy would be seething for vengeance since she'd be considered a friend + she shared food with him. Denji, who at this point in the series, was unfamiliar with the concept of friendship and empathy with other humans, had to pause and objectively think about what her death meant to him as a person and concluded eh

When Aki bites it there's gonna be some call back parallels for sure to show just how far Denji has come

IMO Kishibe will get got but will come close or closer than expected. With Quanxi’s dolls they mention he has garbage devils but he seemed to effortlessly beat them so i think he’s insanely seasoned and probably one of the people most familiar with Makima’s contracts and whatever the gently caress she is.

I think Quanxi's devil friends said that Kishibe had contracts with powerful devils but he himself didn't have much to pay for the contracts implying that he couldn't use them effectively.

Is Makima a hybrid or a devil? From her actions there could be an argument for either

The ridiculous number of beers she had without getting intoxicated could suggest that she either can't get drunk or she is no longer capable of it. Alternatively, she may have lost her sense of taste or something.

The movies could be her either trying to understand human emotions or she's trying to induce them because she's no longer capable of feeling, possibly due to a contract?

o her worst case scenario already, so even if this is something on her big list, it's the shittiest of all options, something only done because her hand is played.

I don't think she forced Gun into the corpse. If she did, sending Aki to kill Denji is a 12D Aizen chess move, something that requires knowing every little thing everyone did, something that doesn't remotely match to how we've seen Makima make her plays, or her own commenting with no witnesses that, whelp, this plan went to hell fast.

On the other hand, leaving a corpse as bait so that Gun would weaken himself? That one's on the table. And then it went wrong. Because things going right is something that doesn't happen much.

Giving Makima the benefit of the doubt, one possible scenario is that she teleported to the Gun Devil’s location after her attack to inspect the corpse but it was playing dead and hijacked Aki’s corpse to escape, since Aki was the closest and most recently deceased corpse. This could’ve been a mistake on Makima’s part but c’mon, it’s Makima.

I feel this is another test from her in order to determine how useful Denji is/power him up. Japan’s higher ups are planning on wresting the Gun Devil remnants from the other countries so having Denji 1v1 a 20% Gun Devil would be a pretty good test to see if he’s up to the task. It might be part of her plan to sacrifice Aki (and maybe Power too) to level up Denji. The Chainsaw Devil is rumoured to be this big badass who defeated the 100% Gun Devil yet Denji hasn’t really demonstrated much of the chainsaw devil’s power. All of his power ups were just him learning how to use his head and fight better
