Remakes aren't bad.

People taking an older story and retelling it in a way that fits more with current tastes, in a new way, and with some new tricks they learned since the last time is an incredibly old thing. Almost every work by Shakespeare is exactly this. The fact that we can just record things now and keep them forever did not erase our need to do this, and it wasn't supposed to.

Sometimes they are bad. Sometimes they are good. It depends on the skill of the remakers but they very much aren't some sign of modern decline and the decadence of our times. The real sign of the decadence of our time is people freaking out over it. Hmmm, yes, I see, you need a constant stream of entirely "new" experiences, or you get bored, how dare the clowns do a show you've seen before, off with their heads.

Lol. Is this is a joke? The Robocop remake is like the most generic thing ever that totally misses the weird cheesy satire of the original. Dredd remake is way better than the original film but Robocop is absolutely not.

Video games are comparatively much younger. If you say movies begin in 1895 and video games begin in, I dunno, 1970, then video games would be in their 1944. Casablanca and Citizen Kane have just come out.

It's a joke, or an attempt to get goons "gooning".

I think those two movies are the perfect examlpes of how trying to cash in on an established IP are lazy and bad, as opposed to retelling a story (like Dredd did).

Probably Resident Evil 4 as it both ruined games with everyone chasing the same style of play and mechanics while also establishing a high water mark of gameplay and design.

back in the day when we had no moving pictures every time someone wanted to see the same play again it was a remake. remakes are the natural human state, "movies" that don't change are unnatural

Remakes usually suck unless they really care about the vision and feel of the original work, and a lot of prequels and sequels suck too.

Ask me about my XCOM and controller collection

word.

My brother and I were talking about this tonight since I had taken my kids to see the new Addams Family movie. He’s taking his kids in a few days. Overall it was ok for kids but lacking in the more subtle adult humor.

In terms of remakes bing better I think:
Father of the Bride
Does Little Shop of Horrors count?
My wife says the new IT was better than the 80s version.

I can’t bring myself to even to watch the new Charlie’s Angels (Kristen Stewart is a horrible actress) and the remake of Big (Little) looked like a flaming pile. Both the new Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Streets were weak compared to the originals.

It's perfectly cast, the pacing is excellent, they don't give you any more info than you need, and Rian Johnson could have taken a lesson on how you properly subvert audience expectations.
