The first half of season 45 has a wonky schedule, and this is most evident "this" "month." Usually, at least for the past decade+, SNL has done three sets three show-blocks, each confined to their respective months - October, November, and December. Sometimes the first episode will be at the end of September. But this year, we had three episodes in September and October, then there will be another episode in October, the first week of November, then a week off, then another November episode, then two more weeks off, then three December shows, ending on the 21st, just a few days before Christmas (the show usually goes on break 7-13 days before Christmas.) So here's the pinboard: two double-duty bookings, wow Ahem. Tonight, Chance the Rapper. He premiered on the show as a musical guest, then returned as a host, and now is the time when he does both. Here's a cute Instagram video posted earlier this week https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1187038410340483073 As always, promos and whatnot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teXQxiHXG7M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t36V37XpFw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X9SfvEN3o8 Next week, Kristen Stewart and Coldplay both return, with Harry Styles pulling double duty in the middle of the month. A few more videos for fun, and profit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T_YK1EWg80 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lC6yDYl_3w What's Brooks Wheelan up to? He had a funny set on Seth Wednesday night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDdWEfyuzqI Speaking of Joker (in his set,) have this cool poster the show recently posted And an editing timelapse video https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1184853053238853632 Tonight, in the Vintage timeslot, will be a 1-hour Halloween special. This year we're being spared the David S. Pumpkins animated special, so it's just the good stuff: A collection of Halloween sketches from years past. I just discovered these threads you do, and I wanted to say I'm impressed by how much effort you put in and how much you know about the history of the show. Do you have an all-time favorite sketch? Mine is The Rock's version of Greg is Not an Alien. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou6w7Sd0-Pk

That was an episode. Chance was great, but man the writing this season has been... unfocused I guess would be a way to put it. Like the cold open should have stuck to one thing, made the point and joke then go to the credits. It just meandered along, not really being funny or making a point. I am not sure who is head writer right now but they really should be focusing everyone on trimming down their sketches to just the meat. Far too many of the sketches this season have felt like last sketch of the night contenders instead of the meat and potatoes like they should be. They go on far too long, aren't that funny and mostly end without a punchline. I hate beating up on it because I see there is some creativity there but it just isn't working. That being said Update, which has been the weakest part of the show the last couple of seasons has been on fire so far. Vicious and funny like the segment should be. Even the bits have mostly worked so far, except for the old man/Centennials bit from the last episode which continued the going on too long/not working problem.

This season has seems like they've done two things: 1) scaled back the political sketches. 2) done something more akin to the late 80s sketches, take an outlandish premise, ground it and then let the funny flow through it. The Phoebe Waller-Bridge episode with her writing to the front lines, the werewolf sketch from last night, I dunno I feel like the show is coming into an upswing.

Did they edit a joke out from the news on the Hulu version? There's a weird fade out/in after the Trump son's Weekend Update commentary into Che's bit about Kanye.
