(tweaked repost of my own Resetera OT)![]() I think it's safe to say there isn't another video game series where the music has not only been consistently compelling over its entire multi-decade lifespan, but also contributed so much to both its atmosphere and gameplay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmcuuWMDW7c Composed primarily by Mario composer Koji "King of Melody" Kondo up to 2000's Majora's Mask, then sharing duties most notably with Splatoon composer Toru Minegishi, Mario Kart 64 composer Kenta Nagata, and Pikmin composer Hajime Wakai, The Legend of Zelda's soundtracks have produced many of the catchiest and most recognizable songs in all of gaming, not to mention some of the most intense battle themes, most emotional tracks, as well as soothing ambience and delightful quirkiness. ![]() Zelda's composers have shown a magnificent ability to adapt music from any genre to match any mood. Bombastic orchestral, gentle piano, watery steel drums, flighty pan flute, dissonant Chinese opera gongs, ethereal chanting, and graceful harps. And the result always sounds like its own thing, rather than trying to ape classical or popular music. This holds true for Nintendo's music in general, but Zelda's strives to be so much more than just a cherry on top. It weaves itself into the fabric of the game, and becomes just as important a part of the journey as the dungeons, characters, and vistas. ![]() And of course, while the heightened fidelity of the 3D Zelda soundtracks has contributed so much to these attributes, the tunes of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras still absolutely pack a punch. And the handheld entries haven't been slouches either. While the emphasis of this thread is on the older tunes, feel free to talk about the new stuff too. Here's the two best tracks in Breath of the Wild: Minor spoiler Major DLC spoiler Synthetic Hermit fucked around with this message at 01:10 on Jan 5, 2020 |

My three favorite Zelda tunes aren't from the older games, but instead Breath of the Wild, and A Link Between Worlds. Minorish spoilers for BotW. You know you'll eventually end up there, but still. Also kind of minor spoilers for ALBW. And again. ETA: Also if covers are cool, this one is pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwa4KJ9v968 AngryRobotsInc fucked around with this message at 22:36 on Oct 27, 2019 |

This was brilliant. I don't really watch videos, but I actually watched and listened to the whole 30 minutes. What a medley! Shibawanko posted:https://soundcloud.com/felikitty/sets/zelda-3-fm-project I also really liked these. In fact who has more electric lo-fi covers or jazzy covers? There's so many just straight real instrument versions, which are fine, or metal ones, which I'm not keen on. Why are there so many hard rock/metal covers?

Zelda for sure has some of my favorite video game music, across many titles. It's consistently great. But the real reason I opened this thread, was to post THE OCARINA OF RHYME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8lKkhylZ94 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzQWNQrgr4A
