drat! At the rate it's shrinking in another 40 years there won't be any life left on Earth that's aware there's a planet that humans used to call Jupiter.

SidneyIsTheKiller posted:Jupiter in 1979 vs. 2017 Looking at it again, it's pretty amusing how Jupiter looked a lot more 70s in general back in the 70s, as if it were somehow consciously aware of Western Earth design and fashion trends of the period and conducted its storms accordingly.

Because that's the one with the hexagonal north pole. Jupiter's the one with the strangely blue-colored south pole, (though I think most of the images of it had been color-saturated to make it appear more dramatic than it actually is).

my prediction: it will disappear and eventually a new spot will appear on the opposite polar hemisphere

Dogmeat posted:yeah I meant the cool planet saturn. did you know it also has rings? those are also cool. Yeah, but we just found out Saturn's rings are falling from orbit at the worst case scenario rate of 2 tons of material per second, so don't get married to it just yet. In about 100 million years the descendants of the bacteria that feasted on the remains of humanity next week will never know how cool Saturn used to be. Science guys are pretty sure it's because Elon Musk keeps shooting cars at the moon.
