  • MAKE DRUGS - Program your molecular synthesizer (MOLEK-SYNTEZ) to convert ordinary industrial chemicals like benzene, acetone, and hydrochloric acid into a variety of small molecules with various pharmacological effects.
  • SHOW OFF - Optimize your solutions and share them with the world using the built-in score histograms, friend leaderboards, and animated GIF exporter.
  • CHEAT AT CARDS - In a move that should surprise no one, MOLEK-SYNTEZ contains an original Zachtronics solitaire game. When you get stuck, cheat and place your cards wherever you want. Just don't do it so much that you get in over your head...

So far it seems a bit like a crossbreed between Opus Magnum and TIS-100. I'm guessing that cycle counts are going to go up later too, because so far everything has been sub-1000 with rather coarse scaling factors.

Opening up the precursor catalog to *whatever you want* after the first two is simply evil.

This game is aggressively unwilling to explain itself, which is neat. Also I'll have a toy to play with while I'm working the polls tomorrow.

e:Is there a shortcut to quickly add/remove precursors? Like, if I decide I really need twelve, do I need to hit the catalog for each one?

e2: How about a way to ignore a command the very first time it would be run? Just once! C'moooooon.

Ctrl-drag on the precursor you want to copy. The same works for symbols, including area selection.

I think I don't understand chemistry enough... I remove a group and it leaves a Cl atom from that group with a bonded H that it didn't have before. Then when I get the exact layout of C/Cl/H atoms I need, the bonds are going in the wrong directions. In this case, the Chloroform one--some of the Cl atoms are connected to each other instead of to the C.

Unfortunately can't rotate the manipulators though. (You can rotate the target atom, but that's not always the easiest thing to get to where you want to.)

Edit: Wheeee this gets pretty complicated quick. 3rd row is looking nasty already.

You can rotate the manipulators (I think with Q and E) before running the solution, but not during, as far as i've seen.

I just realized that I don't fully understand how shunting H atoms works. It's more than just adding/removing. I need to play some more on an easy level.

Sorry, I meant 'during the run'. But yeah, that's not necessarily clear either.

Shunting will kick one off the atom your manipulator is pointing at, and then it goes flying in that direction until it hits another atom and adds one to that.

Ah, I realized my confusion was because I didn't know shunt was a distinct command. I think I used it on accident on one level.

I found this bond priority guide on reddit. no idea how correct it is but here you go

quote:

When removing bonds, higher level bonds appear to always lose a tier before lower level bonds are touched (e.g. if you have a double and a single bond on one atom, the double will always become a single without fail). Conversely, single bonds will always form before double bonds, double bonds before triples, etc (the atom will try to "even out" as much as it can).

When there is more than one candidate for any single bond, it appears to be orientation-based, like /u/cake-pie said.

I did some testing by placing 3 H2O: one in the center (the "selector"), and two outside (the "choices"); removing both H from the choices, and then removing one H from the selector. I've discovered the following:

DR over L, UL, UR

DL over UL, UR, R

L over UR, R; L below DR (as above)

UL over R; UL below DR, DL

UR below DR, DL, L

R below DL, L, UL

In other words, the priority appears to start at down-right, and then decrease clockwise, centered on the atom whose hydrogen is being removed on that turn. I would assume this holds true for double- and triple-bonds as well.

All levels finished, a little disappointed in how little scope there seems to be to optimize for speed on the later levels.

Optimizing for fewest symbols/modules is pretty fun and tricky though.

There's either some incredbly specific multi-fulcrum rotate setup I can't quite set up, or there's another means I'm missing to get two single atoms bonded from one precursor input.
