Hail Odin! My 2019 Submission is under the world tree Yggdrasil! https://soundcloud.com/nick-zachariasen/jingle-bell-ragnarok ← EDIT: Original version EDIT FOR FIXED VERSION WITH THE SOUND EFFECTS I FORGOT THE FIRST TIME I came up with this in I think 2016 but way too late to do it that year. In 2017 and 2018 I forgot until it was too late but I at least had it mostly written this time last year; I'd just run out of time. I finally produced it and I think had I not been playing as much Fallout: New Vegas I could have put more polish on it— like footsteps in the snow, some of which I tried to record today but couldn't really get any clean samples thanks to not only cars but also planes and train horns. In the end, though, I think it turned out O.K. Well, O.K. except for my attempts at Nordic accents. With Frosty I went for making the classic cartoon Frosty Finnish and instead he ended up sounding like Bela Lugosi fused with Hedonism Bot and in both cases I probably sounded more Slavic than Scandinavian, but I don't care because I achieved! I did all the voices myself, processing only a bit in some obvious places. In case anybody wants to read the script, here you go. I set scenes for myself even though this was audio only. I figured it helped me get into the scene. EDIT: I just realized there was a sound effect or two I forgot to put in. I might fix it tomorrow night if I still have time. Is that 11:59 Eastern? I've already started work on making a tracklist, which currently starts with Incoming Message From the North Pole and ends with the recently posted I Hate Christmas (Goodbye). Just a quick shout out to you caring about track order I know that, with streaming and all, that stuff usually doesn't tend to matter, but it's important for posterity and for weirdos like me who really get used to a given order. Make it flow, make it flow, make it flow! I appreciate it! And soon enough, I'll be putting this finished project on my site, as well as the past two years. However, "Christmas is a Time for Cheer" from 2013 was posted by Maw. Not sure about pfeffernuss. All the entry posts are now blank in that thread and there aren't any context cues I can find. Maybe someone remembers? Edit: I think pfeffernuss "might" have been posted by Popcorn. They said in the thread their contribution was a collaboration with a friend and acoustic guitar, which matches the song. The original link is dead though, so I can't confirm. I have enjoyed many titles in the past, but I was especially proud of my (one and only) attempt at naming an album, with 2012's Merry Christmas and The Infinite Santa. I'm a huge Pumpkins nerd, and the remasters had recently been released. If I contribute nothing further to these albums, I'll still be happy. Edit: also, I whole heartedly vote for Manger Danger.

I'm sure they have learned a lot since. I know for a fact I would never have participated ever if everything had been done consistently to a super high standard.

I had mentioned this to Edward Mass in a pm earlier, but when I was preparing the tracks, at least in 2012, I merely normalized every track to peak at either 0 or better yet -1db. Otherwise, I don't really mess with the quality of the tracks, because how much it varies is really part of the charm of these albums. But a generally consistent volume across the whole mess is appreciated, so I recommend that in the future, if you could try and normalize so that your peak hits there, you'll be good. Unless your track is a bunch of whispering with a loud cymbal crash at the end.

Maybe using mp3gain is sensible here to bring extreme outliers in line? It's 100% mathematically reversible and it doesn't recode the mp3. And it will play back at the set level on car stereos or whatever that don't do their own automatic volume leveling. I agree with variety being the charm and not touching the files in other ways. Though I did convert the 96KHz/24 bit wav file in the archive to a high quality mp3 for my personal use.

Flipperwaldt posted:Yeah, don't normalize to 0dB if the end result is going to be an mp3 (or similarly compressed file). This can lead to clipping on decoding/playback. -1dB should be fine. Yes, all of this is good. Edward Mass, listen to Flipperwaldt
