It’s funny how Olivia Wilde was portrayed in the latest The Studio considering who face of AppleTV’s flagship show is. I also laughed at the reference to her “going Fincher” and then the climax being Rogan trying to figure out what’s in the box

I think it was their big show, until the one two punch of the third season sinking itself and Severance taking its mantle.

I love that every episode so far has had a real spotlight on the director guest appearances. Actors get cameos and guest appearances all the time so it's nice they're focusing on this instead (while still featuring at least one actor per episode).

The trailer looks pretty fun, casting is a little off for me, murderbot has become a beloved non-binary icon for a reason and while Skarsgårds a great actor he is a stereotypical masculine one. But TV is TV and you need that popular attractive leading character.

DaveKap posted:New 'The Studio' episode was consistently funny. Whatever rig they have for attaching and detaching the camera to Matt's old car is cool and the more shots like that, the more I'll love the show. I'm 99% sure they welded a step to the car frame and the cameraman just climbed aboard and held on for dear life while Seth sent it. The camera moves were steadied but still looked completely handheld.

It's like the whole show is basically just cinematographers having a gigantic gently caress-around theme park day.

In one of the Breaking Bad podcasts Vince Gilligan mentioned losing a reel of film when it fell out of a truck at the airport and a plane ran over it but insurance covered the reshoot. Having to fly the film to LA constantly for editing must have been a hassle but BB would not have looked so good.

The Studio is beautifully shot but the last two episodes felt kind of lightweight, especially this week's. The show definitely suffers without O'Hara and Hahn

Just caught up on the latest Studio and thought the reveal was going to be that they loving hated his note and just lied about filming it, told him it was great but oh what a shame it somehow got stolen. Definitely think it was better going with Wilde turning out to be a loving lunatic who would have gotten away with it all if she hadn't been so enamored with the quality of her own cameo ![]()

I like the vibes of Your Friends & Neighbors a lot. Hamm is much better at this kind of role than the different goofy stuff he tries to do like Fargo. Apple TV+ keeps winning.

I feel it dropped off a cliff after the first two episodes or so, it was kinda good and then it’s just kinda all over the place. The clown shootout was ludicrous but then the hospital shootout is even worse, it felt like the naked gun shootout where they’re on opposite sides of an air duct. I mean I’ll watch it to the end because the acting is good but a lot just doesn’t really work for me which is sad. mcmagic posted:I like the vibes of Your Friends & Neighbors a lot. I really wish Dope Thief was made a decade or more ago and was a long running thing rather than a miniseries. It has a great setup that could've leant itself to some fantastic 'heist of the week' episodes but it all gets thrown out after the first episode.

Data Graham posted:The thru-line of all three episodes so far sems to be "everyone grinning and bearing it while you try to suck up to the person you have to suck up to in order to not rock the very precarious boat that is The Studio", and that leads to 44 consecutive minutes of very high-strung tension with zero actual stakes that any normal person should care about. I think this pretty much nails it. Zwille posted:Also the quality is really good, like they put a lot of effort in it or does it just look like it? The sets, lighting and shots seem really well thought out (and complex), so it looks like there's a lot of money and effort behind it.

Dope Thief is bad, but there’s a good show (or what could’ve been a good show) hiding in there. Looking forward to more episodes of Your Friends & Neighbors. Hamm is great in basically everything. Just watched the first episode of The Studio, and really liked it. I really liked the mix of characters and actors playing themselves.

New The Studio is towing the line of great cinematography and decent everything else. The drone shot near the start and the through-the-window shot as Quinn's watching Sal's parking problems were terrific. Really hope this poo poo gets renewed as long as they can, a just-silly show with high-cinematography effort is something I never thought I needed like I know I needed now.

I think it picks up by the end of the second episode, but the way the pilot starts rubbed me the wrong way. The "poor, put upon rich white male, caught by #metoo and repeatedly hosed over by his ex wife and ungrateful kids" stuff felt like it was ripped from a show made 25 years ago. It does subvert some of it but it feels a bit tone deaf. Fun show otherwise though.

This episode of The Studio felt way more like what I wanted. Cut throat studio politics and the battle between art and commerce as experience by the commerce people.
