I'm surprised this doesn't happen with small schools. Go to East Bumfuck State, get treated like a king with the coaches deferring to you, get under the table cash and stuff, run over a bunch of scrubs that are worse than elite high school players, then enter the draft after a year.

this turned out to prescient

though calling Howard "East Bumfuck State" is harsh

Division II conference suspending all fall sports, including basketball.

The Ivy League has done the same, and obviously while it's most clearly about football in this moment, probably time to start accepting that the 2020–21 season is pretty much toast even before it gets started.

I think it's another month or two before we start seeing basketball shift to the new year or cancel non-conference.

And the Lord said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

One big issue is that the revenue from football and men's basketball typically funds every other sport. If that revenue goes down, which it certainly will, the money has to come from somewhere. Title IX and conference policies make revenue and non-revenue sports a package deal, if there isn't enough cash to pay for the whole package, you have to either subsidize it or drop everything.

Yeah, at this stage it's just a matter of the NBA waiving their age requirement officially, and guaranteeing that contract if games aren't played.

e: Apparently some big money is being thrown around overseas if the NBA doesn't waive reqs. The biggest worry for Tech fans now is that he somehow pulls his brother away from Tech without him even playing in a game.

(also, complaining about this just reveals you're a taco bell scrub, the pro order is always a cheesy gordita crunch, the new invention of this month that you saw on TV that made you want to go to taco bell, and any of the other three dozen other things on the menu that are all the same)

the 7-layer burrito was one of the things that had actual food involved at some stage and the spicy potato soft taco was always a a pro add-on to any order (especially on the breakfast menu). i mean, i'm still a little sad about losing the grilled chicken stuft burrito, one of the few Taco Bell items that sufficed as a meal by itself. Crean's taste is unsurprisingly trash (Nachos Supreme? really?) and the beef is to be avoided at all costs but it's worth at least a single performative tear

also while we're in the neighborhood, here's a Twitter bot a friend of mine built: https://twitter.com/TacoHellMenu

Minnesota's Malik Carr and Illinois Kofi Cockburn are both pulling out of the draft and coming back. Kind of surprised by Carr, very surprised by Cockburn, he was a beast last season.

Neither one of them was going to get drafted. Cockburn is never going to be a serious prospect unless he finds a time machine

Dosunmu coming back is a little surprising, but even he was kind of on the second round borderline so assuming college basketball happens he could probably improve his stock if he ever learns to shoot

Isaiah Joe is withdrawing from the NBA draft and returning to Arkansas.

Kentucky and Tennessee are rightly getting most of the press out of the SEC for the coming season, but I think Arkansas is going to be dangerous. I hope we are able to get at least spring conference ball.

Arkansas with Moody and Joe is going to be really fun if we have a season. I like him a lot as a prospect because I think he has a chance to be a truly elite NBA shooter but for whatever reason it doesn't seem like NBA teams were that in on him yet, he wasn't even consistently cracking the second round with the mainstream draft people who actually talk to front offices. I guess because his percentage from 3 this year was kinda meh, but he was hurt and I really doubt he ever shoots that badly again given his volume and how well he shoots from the foul line

Yeah, I am really really hoping for a season. Moody is a one and done and it will be a shame if he never gets to play at Bud Walton. Could be a first sweet 16 in a long time if the 9 other new players can help together around Joe and Moody. Being able to rebound this year will help.

The only thing that even kind of threw a wrench into it is that he has a shitload of money waiting for him in Europe and who knows if there will be a college season, but he wasn't going to get drafted and before we realized how long covid would hang around he was pretty adamant about coming back unless he had a guaranteed nba deal waiting for him. There's no reason for him to gently caress around with the g-league for pennies on the dollar when he could immediately make seven figures in Europe. He'll be a great player there, he has a lot of family connections in euro basketball, and he's already a Bosnian citizen through his mom

Guard him legally - Davison’s going to be a senior.

X is a great college player but he's undersized and doesn't really have the outside game to make up for it. Feels like he's destined for Europe. Aaron Henry is coming back unsurprisingly.

Tillman also has two kids so, you know, go get that paper.

Nah Tillman is gonna find a rotation spot, he's too good on defense and as a passer/ball handler not to. I don't think he's going to be a star but he will play as a backup big for someone. If anything the size is probably less of an issue in the NBA where a lot of teams are going smaller and they need a big who can play in space like him. He was the best defensive player in the big ten last year where like 2/3 of the teams had a good and huge center so it's hard to imagine the size being that big a deal unless he's going against, like, Embiid.
