Auburn 70, South Alabama 69 trip report. Was announced as 10K, USA's biggest crowd ever, but wasn't quite full. Ton of Auburn fans there of course but USA got impressively loud -- felt like a real road game. For now Auburn has plenty of raw defensive talent to get by with but is still finding an offensive identity -- guard play had to take a step back from Jared Harper and Bryce Brown but I didn't think it would be this visible with as much playing time as J'Von McCormick and Samir Doughty had coming in. Isaac Okoro won the game with a falling-down four-foot and-one with two seconds left; you'll know his name pretty soon if you don't already, looks like a one and done. Babatunde "Stretch" Akingbola, 6'8" from Nigeria with one year of American HS ball, got his first playing time when Austin Wiley and Anfernee McLemore got into foul trouble early in the second half and scored a monster block like four seconds into his career. I was near the top of the arena and gasped at the dude's wingspan. 10/10 would watch again. e: Bruce Pearl owns https://twitter.com/JoshVitale/status/1194454930477715457 KICK BAMA KICK fucked around with this message at 04:42 on Nov 13, 2019 |

RC and Moon Pie posted:Akingbola has more than one year of American high school ball. I covered a high school game of his three seasons ago. Okoro, too, as they were on the same team. Also seen him variously at 6'10" or 6'8". Curious about his wingspan, dude looks like a raptor.

Auburn avoids upset (actually only like a 1-point favorite by KenPom) at Mississippi State and ends up running away after a really brutal first ten minutes or so.

Georgia@Auburn tomorrow moved to 11 a.m. CST for the threat of weather. Should be a good game, Edward vs. Okoro is a matchup worth checking out.

I watched all the clips that came across my TL but at phone size and never caught, what actually instigates the fight? It's a rivalry and I assume it was chippy all night but what's the inciting incident?

Auburn just won a ludicrously stupid game at Ole Miss in double OT by 1, coming back from a deficit as large as 19 in the second half. It had dumb unforced throwaways at critical moments, weird ref decisions, all the good players fouling out, a few actual well-executed plays, everything you want from a really stupid basketball game. Does nothing to dispel any of the troubling signs about Auburn playing even halfway competent opponents on the road but whatever it was fun. https://twitter.com/JoshVitale/status/1222385310245539841

No disagreement the refs got goofy but idk how it added up. Seemed like the whistles were super quick off the ball but you could take an axe to the shooter.

hahahaha if you want to beat Auburn you're gonna need to stretch that lead to 20+ cause it's not gonna hold otherwise

I like the games where we fall way behind cause the postgame hype video after we win makes sure to include a bunch of shots of the other team dunking on us and draining 3s and Bruce going nuts in the locker room and the result is sick as hell https://twitter.com/AuburnMBB/status/1226682749387526144

Oh yeah also Isaac Okoro went down grabbing a hamstring on a loose ball chase with some minor if any contact and did not return which looked... inconclusive? can't tell if it was a big deal or not until we know more. OK here's Bruce: "He didn't rip it but he could be out a little bit. We'll see how he is tomorrow." Not great but not a disaster probably.

Hmm it appears Auburn may be not actually all that good without their one-and-done lottery pick but also goddamn they went 1-17 from behind the line so whatever except that's exactly the way they've lost all their losses but wait they've only lost three games so in one sense it's no big deal but in another sense they're only barely hanging on to their status as a protected seed by winning 5/5 games in OT so I guess they are "clutch" if that means anything but maybe it doesn't in conclusion ![]()

Auburn made another bizarre 17-point comeback against Tennessee, their first win since Isaac Okoro fell to a hamstring injury. (He's resumed practicing, but no timetable is set given they're just playing for seeding and are probably a borderline 4 at best.) Very encouraging given how garbage they've looked in those Unfortunately someone identified as a student was heard to remark something like "Go back to Uruguay" at a Tennessee player (who is from there so it was not like just a weird non-sequitur), but they were ejected and have been banned from Auburn Arena and will face further discipline from the school so they're pretty hosed. quote:This time Pearl had a fiery halftime message to his players, though Doughty declined to share the particulars.

Isaac Okoro returned for Auburn, looked fine in a win over Ole Miss who is not good but until this year gained superpowers when playing us (mashall henderson dot gif). Next up: getting destroyed at Rupp as Kentucky clinches the regular season title.

The Athletic did a great piece a day or two ago about the '88 or '89 measles outbreak at I think Siena? that got campus quarantined, a basketball player spread it to another school, a conference tournament game had to be played in an empty stadium.
