so there's been serious talk of the B1G being a 10-bid league this year, and is that at all possible?

i mean off the top of my head Mich St, Indiana, Penn St, Ohio St, Michigan are all locks, Rutgers is looking good, loving Illinois might just screw around and get a bid...who else?

(and if this means it denies us of the Four-Bid Atlantic 10 I will be angry, because it looks like it'll return to being the 3 Bid League this year with Dayton and VCU having pretty much sewn up bids)

while St Louis is a good place for Dayton to go (loads of alumni here because there's two Marianist high schools and it, along with Miami of Ohio, is regarded as "a good school that's close enough but far enough away to say you went out of town" by HS counselors), it doesn't have a 1-16 seed line and that's a shame. mostly because I want to see Obi Toppin.

however, Cleveland has a 1-16 line, which may be even better. (rumors are per Palm STL will get the Illini and Kentucky plus an old friend in Creighton, who used to pack the Kiel back when they were in the MVC.)

the other home games this year: Gonzaga will get to stay home (they don't play many games at Spokane VMC, which is where the NCAA always goes), Duke to Greensboro, Florida St to Tampa, and Kansas goes up 29 Highway to Omaha.

hey, if Bobby Petrino could re-surface at Southwest Missouri State, then Pitino could come back to Jim Valvano's old school

(Iona also had one of the best "East Coast point-guard" names in recent years, namely Schadrac Casimir. he joins the pantheon created by Scoonie Penn, Scoochie Smith, Jordair Jett and the currently-at-Rhody Fatts Russell.)

tbh I probably would have voted for Howard because he's less harmful defensively (mostly by virtue of position, not because he's any good at it) and a ridiculously efficient scorer despite like a 10% higher usage than even Garza but Garza had a better year than Toppin. apparently the team Green/a few other guys will join will be a barnstorming team, playing exhibitions against G-League teams, "NBA Academies" whatever that means, and possibly international friendlies.

sounds a bit like the Junior Basketball Association (remember that?), but if the NBA is running it they'll actually put some oomph behind it instead of it being an ego-trip for one Lavar Ball. thing is, though, will anyone want to watch it?

Apparently Missouri will play a home and home with Missouri State starting in a couple of years oh this year? First time they've played at all since 1998, first time they'll play in Springfield since 1941.

I feel a resounding 'meh.' I mean, I think all states with multiple D1 schools should have a thing where the flagship university has to at least shuffle through the other schools playing one a year if there's not already a rivalry game. But as far as actually being interested in watching the game I feel like the last time I'd have been interested in that was when Cuonzo Martin was coaching the other team.

i'd rather play SLU than SMS, but honestly playing MoSt may be better for the university as a whole, considering right now the state is controlled by the 417 area code and throwing them a bone in basketball might mean more state funding for Mizzou

looking at Kenpom, drat if SLU isn't underrated at P45. they've got a great senior Big 3 of Jordan Goodwin, Hasahn French, and Javonte Perkins, and Goodwin looked amazing last year when he could play the 2 and have Yuri Collins run the offense.

as for Mizzou this is a make-or-breaker for Cuonzo. he's installed a new offense based on Euroleague concepts and that helped to bring the Smiths/Tilmon back for their senior year. problem is his recruiting is suffering in STL because of Ford and co. making the Bills into an attraction again.
