Wrecked the athletic director's wife's car, lied to cops about his name, said he was walking down the avenue when he noticed the crashed vehicle, came clean, and got a ticket. No alcohol involved, likely driving too fast in an icy (but maybe not!) area. Yikes.

Edit: ok this makes a lot more sense now

Brendan Quinn, The Athletic posted:

A source with knowledge of the incident, speaking to The Athletic on the condition of anonymity, said the car in question was an eight-year-old Toyota RAV4 registered to Chrislan Manuel, the wife of Warde Manuel. That car had been handed down to Evan Manuel, their son, and a student manager for the Michigan basketball program. Evan Manuel and Simpson live in the same apartment building and Evan Manuel, according to the source, loaned Simpson the car on the night of the crash.

The Big Ten is supposedly testing drat near everyone on a daily basis, quasi-bubble style. There's also talk that the Big Ten is downright hiring a pool of referees (they're independent contractors) so the refs can drive everywhere instead of fly.

Supposedly the NCAA tournament singlehandedly keeps the NCAA afloat, so there will be an NCAA tournament no matter the infection rate.

Oakland came very, very close to beating Michigan. Michigan beat Bowling Green with plenty of room, then looked like they've never played against a zone their entire life. Then Michigan realized they have BIG (Hunter) DICKENSON ENERGY and a 7'2" Center will crack a zone.

Yep. One of their lead scorers is bothered by a shoulder injury, but he had plenty of points. The close game was a combination of Michigan's best point guard (a transfer) getting in foul trouble, the team clanking wide-open 3s, and complete vapor lock when dealing with a zone. Michigan had like 15 turnovers going into the half and Isiah Livers yelled at Juwan Howard and tossed a Gatorade cooler (they made up quick).

It took them far too long to realize that if you're clanking attempts to shoot over the zone, feed the big fucker in the post.

College basketball fans in Michigan basically have two questions:

1) how bad is Duke? (about MSU)
2) how good is Oakland? (about Michigan)

Hunter Dickenson bailed Michigan out of that Oakland game, and ever since, it's like they've unlocked a murder machine. If Hunter's quiet before halftime, the other team adjusts to guard the perimeter and oops Hunter scores 20. If they adjust to double hunter oops some other dude scores 20. Then it's like "wait wtf how'd they get up by 20 so quick?"

It's kind of defensible because Michigan's early Big Ten schedule wasn't really very heavy. They played ranked Big Ten teams, but they were classic early high-ranked teams. But that wisconsin game kind of changes things!

Since I barfed out the above, here seems to be the full story: https://theathletic.com/2340345/2021/01/23/michigan-purdue-basketball-covid-19/

- Everyone at Purdue was in the postgame celebration circle on Tuesday, program has overall good standards otherwise
- Sasha feels lovely on Wednesday, takes two tests (presumably antigen), tests negative both times, quarantined anyways
- Sasha still feels lovely on Thursday, tests positive, everyone else is still negative, Michigan gets notified
- Michigan hasn't left yet, players/coaches demand that Purdue upgrades their testing to 100% PCR tests, which all come back negative, all players on Michigan/Purdue told
- Friday rolls around, Sasha's somehow still the only positive, B1G decides not to call game, Michigan/Purdue both agree to play
- Purdue sends out LOL SASHA GOT COVID tweet two hours before gametime, viewing public isn't told that all of the above happened transparently and the players/coaches were fine with it

Problems:

- They seem to only hold out people for "contact tracing" if they're near people when symptomatic (discounting presymptomatic spread)
- It's not clear how much of the teams' medical staffs were involved
- Nothing was said about where Sasha might've picked up COVID (unless they knew)

Weird poo poo.

The county is urging people who visited Meijer from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Briarwood Mall from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. last Sunday to immediately get tested for the virus.

The state's patient zero had a negative coronavirus test two days before she traveled Jan. 3 from the U.K. to the U.S., said Susan Ringler Cerniglia, a spokeswoman for the Washtenaw County Health Department.

The woman also tested negative for the virus on Jan. 4 and Jan. 6. She got a positive coronavirus test result on Jan. 8 and began isolation on that date.

Most of the additional seven people who've contracted the virus since having close contact with the woman live in connected households, Ringler Cerniglia said, and are also in quarantine.
