The 3600 consistently performs better in games, and is only marginally worse in production applications As for avoiding a refresh in 5 years: good luck. Things change. 5 or 6 years ago the advice was to never worry about VRAM and that 4 cores was more than enough for anything. Nobody really knows where the wind will blow. If you really want to hedge your bets, maybe try getting a 2600 now while they're still dirt cheap, and then just getting whatever the last big boy AM4 chip is whenever AMD moves onto AM5 in two years.
