I've been catching up on some past episodes, and got through the Paul Manafort one. I live in Connecticut and his family's Manafort Construction company is still very much a thing, and it is really weird to constantly see construction sites with the Manafort name plastered everywhere. They get a lot of city contracts from the current (Republican) mayor of New Britain, too. Though not sure if they've gotten any business from the Indian casinos.

Not gonna lie, I don’t think I could stomach a podcast that was just “here’s the most hosed up stuff the cops ever did” because just headlines from Philly alone would make you cry. I remember when I was in school in 2007, a big story broke out that this ‘hero’ cop from northwest Philly that had been assaulting a girl he’d met at the park for like 9 years, starting from when she was 14 to 23 until she finally committed suicide. That was one of Philly’s best cops. Personally I think it’s probably easier to report on war criminals and genocidal dictators and their crimes, which are so massive that the mind bends trying to accommodate and house them. Cops commit lovely acts on a personal level, handpicking individual human lives to ruin, so any one episode of “bad cops” or whatever would probably hurt for more to listen to.

It looks like it’s going to be a generalized history of policing, and will likely take pit stops in especially lovely time periods, like the dollop series on the LAPD. I expect some early police follies, then a bunch of stuff on policing becoming more regimented and figured out and lovely. Hopefully some nice dives into how bad and lovely various types of CSI science have been, like blood spatter and hair testing being based on little scientific validity.

Maybe it was just the slow burn by starting at the beginning of civilization and how ACAB for more then 2000 years, and repeating on that same theme non stop. It's like that guy at college who has to constantly remind you that every part of American culture is connected to something violent and racist AND ITS STILL GOING ON but you just want to do your Calculus homework.

Try skipping the first two episodes which iirc are a broader history, like you said. #3 and #4 are specific to american police and the kkk. Or if it's just overall the content isn't your bag, there's nothing wrong with waiting another week for the regular show to come back. Personally I was baffled at just how clear the link is, and like I said how much I hadn't known previously / how the guest kept repeatedly pointing out how much all of this is common knowledge among a lot PoC. I was glad to have it all spelled out, and am looking forward to #5 and #6.
