Not that that was a requirement but at the time I needed some sort of symbolic "gently caress you, I'm out". I'm glad my desire for completionism has faded since then, 100% in VC was painful.

Getting the mansion so soon doesn't chime with my memory either, but turns out the quest lines in general are really really short. We did what, 3 missions for Diaz before he got Lanced? I remember liking Lance at the time, but maybe that was just the enjoyment of having a buddy after the previous game's solitary, zero interaction affairs.
