Uber’s business strategy is “ignore all Taxi law/regulations” and we just let them because “hey look it’s an APP!!”

Uber is a thousand times better than a taxi though

"Yes ma'am, I understand your frustration. I'm legally not allowed to open the bag, so I had no idea what was in there, I just deliver it! No, I don't work for the restaurant. Yes, I suppose that would be frustrating for me, too. I'm sure if you call they can fix it. No, no, I can't go there and complain for you. Okay, thanks for the 0 star review, now I can't feed my family."

This is all major business “innovations in the last 10 years ex. AirBnB is just a global deregulation of the housing market via web-based apps and everyone is 100% cool with it

Love all the goons who are like, "Taxis suck! YUBER RULES!" who don't realize that regulations for cab drivers and cab companies were put in place to make sure cab drivers are able to be paid a living wage.

Many, in many different places. I know it's not perfect instant service in which you get a slave that has to cater to you because you have the power to destroy their earning potential but it still means that someone isn't getting a wage scale in which their car maintenance and health insurance completely offsets any "money" they may make.

Awhile back, I tried using Uber to get to my house from work. It was 38.00 and some change for a one way trip.

If I had to use it long term, I'd just buy some lovely car off of Craigslist and make do. I don't know how people make it their primary form of transportation outside of a major city.

i've been working late recently and have been getting ubers home at 2am, which is an interesting time because they all tend to have had too many energy drinks and are very chatty when i'm loving exhausted and want to be left alone.

Anyway i had this guy the other day who was telling me about how much he likes working for uber, and he was like 'man i love this job. i just get in my car and boom i'm making $15/hr on my own time, thats so good'
he was so happy and excited about that being a lot of money to destroy his car for it nearly made me cry.

Some people really hate working a normal job. So, something like Uber is a good fit for them even though it's just "taxi driver with even fewer benefits".

How long is that journey?
In miami (famously lovely deal for uber drivers) it costs me about $12 to do the 25-30 minute trip from home to work, around $6-8 for an uber pool which only 1 in 10 times I share with someone else.

I dont live on uber, I share a car with my gf, but with $250/mo for a lease and $150+ on insurance (miami) and $200/mo to park on the beach near the office it would be cheaper for me to take full cost ubers by myself there and back every day than it would to get a car which isnt a craigslist beater.

Lion of Judah protect you, Jah be praised.
A friend of mine did uber in the Andale, Virginia area for a few years. She said there were a couple of times she felt uncomfortable but overall it was pretty good. It paid the rent and bought the groceries while she finished classes and the endless paperwork of becoming a US citizen (she's from Thailand).

She's now a full time teacher and just got her citizenship like three months ago.

The gig economy is a pretty good stop-gap for when you're trying to accomplish something, but I don't think anyone should make it their full time... seems like a bad idea.

It was 20 minutes, and most of it was on a local highway that never sees any type of traffic jams or anything. I'm also in a real touristy part of California, so that might've played a part. But if you're in Miami it can't be much different.

I ended up calling my son to give me a ride. The best Uber is the one that you can make from your own DNA :science:
