What We Do In The Shadows made the Top 10 :unsmith:

As much as I enjoyed Mandalorian and Watchmen I'm really surprised they ranked so highly (well, maybe not Watchmen) but I'm thrilled beyond words that Chernobyl topped the poll, it really deserved it.

Thanks Looten Plunder!

dammit goons you were SO CLOSE to having the poll topper be the actual best show of the year for the first time ever

nah but these are cool results, def surprised Mandalorian was so high but it’s a real fun show and it’s better than Agents of SHIELD cracking the top 10 again that’s for sure. Chernobyl is a worthy 1 even if it wasn’t in my personal list, and almost all of the top 10 was stuff I loved. still very sad I’m the only person who put Better Things on their list given it’s been a consistently incredible show for three years running, and I def wish OA and Lodge 49 had been higher, but for the most part y’all didn’t gently caress up too hard.

thanks so much for taking over from Rarity this year, Looten! and gently caress you, Rarity, for your claim that a bunch of video game dorks are cooler than your TVIV brethren!

Interesting Tidbits:
  • There were 42 respondents this year, which is a slight improvement on last year and only two fewer than 2017.
  • Despite the low number of voters, there were 141 individual shows nominated which is the third highest number of shows we've had for a given year
  • The two year TV cycle is most certainly a thing now. Of the 16 "Re-Entrys" on the list, only 2 of them weren't re-entrys due to the fact they didn't air in 2018.
  • A changing of the guard has certainly occurred. 50% of the top 32 shows and 55% of shows on the list were new to the list or debuted in 2019
  • Netflix and HBO are juggernauts compared with the rest of the field. Despite having well under half as many shows nomintated, HBO was only 12 votes short of first place on the network leaderboard.

Witcher is great and it's based on books, not games.

the Games are far more popular than the books though.

We've Got To Go Back
I think its the first time that the top show matched mine, and even more surprised the I also matched on the 2nd show (lots of backlash in that show's thread). I also have 5 of my shows in the top 10, which I find about normal year to year.

That said, my 2 biggest grievances (I know subjective, but...):

1. The Mandalorian - It might be the worst show ever to show up in the TVIV top 5, if not the top 10 overall. It is fun/good, and I like it, but quality wise it is far far from a top 10 show. There is nothing that original about it, and the acting is really bad. I just wish it was fun enough (like a Banshee or Spartacus for example) to make up for it's shortcomings.

2. Santa Clarita Diet - This might of suffered from coming out earlier in the year, but number 64? The show knocked it out of the park this year (unlike GLOW, which while still good faltered some).
