For everything else he was, Ashford during the time we saw him always put the good of the belt/survival of the species ahead of himself. End of season: There's also that whole scene where Ashford explains why they aren't going to kill a prisoner to the other Belters - the speech about how they have family, someone who loves them, someone who will seek revenge.
