this is the fatboy slim remix but the original pierre henry joint is great too (as is the whole "messe pour les temps present" record it was from - the soundtrack to some weird modern dance "mass for the present day"). I read that Matt Groening tried to license it for the theme of futurama but had to get its soundalike made. Pierre Henry was really cutting edge in combining moogs with earlier abstract musique concrete noise based compositions. Michel Colombier co-composed the more musical/pop elements. Anyway cool nice https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DEewNHWgqFU nother track from the messe pour les temps present https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hmx3TKFxQvU psyche rock and teen tonic sound like nothing else really to my ear. maybe the closest thing is jean jacques perrey E.V.A. not coincidentally by another french pioneer of electronic music https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2SO_NZa_hNk Deep Glove Bruno fucked around with this message at 22:38 on Jan 17, 2021 |

And it gives me the opportunity to paste this quote from a dude on the Waxidermy ("weird records that suck") forums which I saved ages ago:quote:As a favor for a friend, I delivered some mushrooms to Chaka Khan. lee dorsey. the KEXP so good they had to press it as an LP... i love that whole performance I just wish they'd recorded the drums with some butt in them. some booty drums. they recorded the drums like a flat debit card butt white girl model from the 80s. the more mics on a drum kit the worse it sounds to me. |

while i never really got too into their albums I used to stay up late and listen to their insane collage radio show midnight to 3am. you could call in and be mixed live and unscreened into the show's space echoed psychedelic sample collage, and some very weird and talented people would do so (and me and my dumbass buddies too) |

my favorite drum cover on youtube is this shabby looking finnish cruise ship musician nailing the gently caress out of every tiny variation in the extremely repetitive "mother popcorn" in black and white and completely expressionless. when the bridge comes in round 1:45... oh man. extra accent at 3:25. ridiculous. like a tibetan mandala of drum covers. learning a song in insane detail that pretty much everyone will be like "but that's a 5 second loop" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oBc8jSBYAU |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAI-P7y_PuE I just love that one of my favorite drummers ever (from the whitefield brothers/poets of rhythm) teamed up with a peruvian guitarist to play traditional cumbia tunes and was clearly like "(in german accent) no I will be playing in my normal funk-music style". it's a great combination and I haven't really heard that genre juxtaposition anywhere else |
