I rewatched episodes 7 and 8 in preparation for seeing 9 tonight. My opinion of them is pretty much what it�s always been - they�re pretty good but not great, with hit or miss characters, some good gags and excellent special effects. Also I forgot just how looooooooong 8 is, and it sounds like 9 is the same run time. Even though I like the movie overall all I could think of while watching 8 was the MST3K scene where they just yell �END! END!�

I am now 80 hours into Persona 5 Royal, and I�m only about halfway done. This is 3 years after I put 120 hours into beating the original. I saw a meme calling it anime crack and I don�t think I�ve seen a more accurate description of a game.

The worst movie I saw in theaters was Year One. I don�t remember anything about it other than that it was the first time I hung out with a new friend, and the movie was so unfun that we never hung out again.

Little late to the Shakespeare talk, but back in the before times there was a tiny production in NYC called Drunk Shakespeare where a troupe of like 5 people would do one of a couple plays with lots of ad libbing while drinking heavily. The theater was super small and set up like a library with it�s own bar, there was (optional) audience participation and the actors seemed like they were having a lot of fun with it. I�d assume they aren�t going to be running any time soon, but hopefully it comes back eventually because it was by far the most fun I�ve had watching a play.

I just spent like eight hours straight playing the new Yakuza overnight, I just finished chapter seven if anyone's gotten far enough to know where that is in the overarching scheme of things, and I'm still not sure if it's any good. There's a lot there I find interesting, but so much of it is taking things that were unnecessary side things in previous entries and using the new battle system to make them mandatory. I will say I'm liking it more than Kiwami 2, 6, and Judgement so far because its big swings in terms of mechanics are admirable just for taking chances, but that's a pretty low bar.

I also just started chapter 7. I played yakuza 0 and almost finished it, but the combat just got so same-y I lost interest. I love JRPGs so this combat is already a plus, and the job system does a ton to keep the battles fresh. I think the side stuff is just as fun as 0, though nothing stands above and beyond as particularly great.

I also like the characters a lot more than I thought I would. I don�t have the same attachment to Kiryu as series vets, but I like ichiban more than either of the protags from 0.

The one major complaint I have is that the �dungeons� can get pretty boring since they�re essentially just corridors that go on for too long.

I did like kiryu and majima, it�s just that like you said without that base of knowledge to get all the callbacks they just weren�t clicking with me quite as much as I was expecting.

As for the combat getting boring in 0 it was a mix of me just not loving beat em ups/ brawlers that much and the sheer length of the game. I had fun with the combat for the first couple hours after unlocking a new stance, but near the end of the game it just wanted fights to be over so I could get back to what I was doing. I haven�t felt that way with 7 yet.

I definitely agree that 7�s combat system leaves a lot to be desired in terms of Big Fight Feel. Not sure how they could really resolve that issue. Maybe in the future they�ll work out some sort of hybrid system? No idea how that would work though.

I think I might end up seeking out some lps of the mainline yakuza games since I do really love the crime melodrama and the crazy side stories.

There are contextual button presses in the turn based battles, and if your character is near a bike or other object when you do a standard attack they will pick up the object and wail on the enemy with it, but yes all the combat is turn based.

Been playing cyberpunk on my base PS4. It�s still pretty janky, but not nearly as bad as I was expecting given the narrative on it. I�m not sure I love it, but whenever I have spare time I still find myself going back to night city.

Yep, the spaceport�s pretty universally considered the low point of the game, but things definitely pick up after that if you can power through. My final time for p5r ended up around 160 hours, but that�s also because i�m crazy and feel the need to run around all of the maps to check to see if there�s new dialogue from the random npcs every few in game days.

I hope so, but they were already doing some solo work when they were together anyway. Other than some weeknd collabs like 5 years ago they haven�t done anything since Random Access Memories. I think they might have just felt there was nowhere new to take their sound and decided to ride off into the sunset rather than put out what they consider to be subpar material.

I�ve been playing NieR replicant. I�ve loved this game since I first read thedarkid�s lp from a decade ago and it�s great to finally be able to play it myself, but drat these side quests are just awful.

I�m in the second half of the first play through and I�m trying to get all the side quests out of the way now so I can blitz through the other endings. after 3 runs through the junk heap without finding one of the side quest materials I need the wheels are starting to come off the wagon

I have also been playing that game, and I think it�s just about the best way to handle a single player version of an inherently multiplayer game like mafia. The characters have distinct traits and levels of skill, and 90 loops in I�m still getting completely played by the ai on the regular.

It�s my birthday and this weekend has been the best time I�ve had since before the pandemic hit. Finally getting to have decent sized get togethers in person with my (fully vaccinated) friends, watching great wrestling and eating great food.
