Yeah, Tight Deadline is free points at lower heat levels and is exponentially more punishing the more enemy-modifying settings you turn on. At 32 Heat even 9 minutes can be really hard for some weapons, although some like Eris Rail or Excalibur care about it less due to damage output or ability to take risks. TD2 is gonna be making every other modifier you added that much worse and I'd trade for it out for anything else.

One strategy that I used for my 32 heat clear was to turn off all healing, but take stubborn defiance and stack max HP at the expense of pretty much everything else. The revive you get from stubborn defiance will still heal you for 30% of your max HP even with all other sources of healing negated. This let me turn off increased enemy damage. I found this easier than trying to split the difference by giving myself only half healing but also giving my enemies significantly more damage.

I even ended up running the Cerberus Collar as my trinket in the service of more HP, which is a trinket I (and most folks) tend to discard after early runs once you have the max HP from the mirror talent.

This is a fun combination with a high damage weapon like the Eris Rail

...

Or the Eris Rail that gets the Zeus legendary in the final shop in Tartarus

Lost a DD fighting Asterius, because he started his charge attack just before he went invincible for the phase transition, and I didn't realise that would still damage you if he hit you.

Absolutely obscene run in the end, having gotten Hermes's keepsake trigger on every possible room from Asphodel onwards and the +20% Dodge Hermes boon I was moving very fast and was very hard to hit.

[edit]

In retrospect removing the -Heal and putting one point into Damage Control would have been much better, but I forgot I hadn't already put one in

You can buy 1 Blood for 1 Ambrosia at the broker, and you need waaaayy less Ambrosia than you do Blood, so this comes in handy. I estimate I probably traded in at least 15-20 Ambrosia for Blood across ~150 runs.

The real answer, though... just keep playing. The game throws Blood at you with every new heat for each weapon, and the more you play, the more you end up with piles of it, much more than you need to max every weapon.

The trickiest part comes in the "mid period," which for me was runs like 60-100, where I really started to figure out the game mechanics and how to build, and I wanted as much Blood as possible to upgrade the aspects I liked. During this 40-ish run period is when I would both save up 1200 gold almost every single run in case I could buy an extra Blood at Styx and did lots of Ambrosia/Blood trading when necessary to pump up aspects I knew I really liked.

Also there are a couple mirror pact/reward things that offer lots of Blood — iirc there are like 3 or 4 that offer between 10-20 Blood as rewards. Prioritize those if you're feeling thirsty.

I hadn't really done anything with Excalibur aspect but this was a giggle. I was taking virtually no damage at all from Dad at the end and was sitting in his face and whapping him with my giant glowy baseball bat. So I know that it's been debated in this thread about who Skelly's boss is, but it's definitely Hermes.. I had a conversation where they basically said I needed to keep my mouth shut about it or else Hades was going to do something about it.

Why would it be debated? Eventually the game straight up tells you:

It's Charon. He's paying Skelly and Hermes. They can only speculate on his motivations, saying he wanted to resolve the issues between the underworld and Olympus. I think Charon, who does a lot of traveling to the mortal world, noticed that Eternal Winter is a very bad thing for them.

Am I doing something wrong or have I just had some poo poo luck lately? I keep only seeing one maybe two boons from gods I want when I'm making runs. An example, I was going to do a Dionysus run with Chiron and I started with his keepsake to get the special and then didn't see another boon from him at all for the rest of the run. This happened on the two runs prior with Zeus as well. I keep trying to start paths and then the game just never gives me another boon from that god or gives it to me so late for it not to matter anymore. I'm sure it's just luck but goddamn is that frustrating.

Sometimes you just get junk. Being able to reroll Boons can help alleviate that, but it's the nature of roguelikes that every once in a while the game kinda fucks you.

I just had a run kind of like this, it's frustrating as hell. None of my boons synergized with Stygius at all and I kept getting coin and poms as golden room rewards. I will say make sure you have the thing in the mirror enabled that increases your chance for golden room rewards (rather than the alternative which increases boon rarity), as after I beat the game a few times I felt the number of boons I would encounter on a given run seemed to drop significantly. I would sometimes make it out of elysium missing a cast or something as a result, until I found that option.

Yeah this happens from time to time. Equip chaos shield and ares keepsake thinking I'm gonna make a sick doom build! Then get doom on special and never see Ares again. Almost ran out of time on 9 minute tight deadline my damage was so bad.

I just had this exact same thing happen. I put on Ares to start and got his special then never saw him again. Put on Aphrodite for the next floor and saw her once before getting Zeus, Demeter, and Poseidon the rest of the run.

I'd like to actually do the math on an ares/artemis/posiedon cast build vs some of the optimal weapon DPS builds. I suspect it's pretty close if not in ares cast's favor if you can get all the legendaries and duos you need. The problem is how legendary/duo dependent it is: you need Vicious Cycle, Hunting Blades, Mirage Shot, and Fully Loaded to get the full effect. But that works out to 5 full damage blade rifts and 5 30% blade rifts all ramping up on one enemy.
Speaking of cast builds, here's an amazing one that I will never attempt to recreate. I was aiming to fill out my list of prophecies and bad news is hard to get. I'm not sure how this damage scaling works out but okay I'm getting 430 from this, on top of the constant chill/lightning AOE trippy shot. A pretty good cast! If I knew I was getting a cast build I might have pommed cast.

Another thing I've realized is Stygian Soul is kinda great for trippy shot and crystal beam. Crystal clarity is insane with support shot. You will constantly emanate homing arrows as long as the crystal cast is up and beaming something. As good as crystal cast can be, I file it under "good with the right other boons but not by itself." Like blade dash can be great with black hole (haha get hosed flamewheels) but it's more consistent to take that common athena/poseidon dash which are quality dashes by themselves.

I've lately really gotten attached to BIG DAMAGE CASTS, but they're definitely really chancy to build for and it's more likely than not that I'll get screwed out of some Duo or another that I really needed. Some runs it feels like I'm just trying to mainline Artemis and Hermes all the time.
