I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to use it, I haven't put much time into it because I hate it I set them off by dashing through them with a damaging dash after I've put a few down. When you defeat them again you get darkness instead. Heat is unlocked after your first successful run, so until then your blood and diamonds are a bit limited. You can also get blood and diamonds from certain prophecies, from Charon's last shop sometimes, or the Wretched Broker's deals sometimes (the big ghost in the lounge).

Chaos aspect may not be the best, but I have had several fun runs using this combination and shotgunning enemies in the back to apply 6 hangover stacks at once (Dionysus is on special, Aphrodite is on attack):
