lmao my uncle was and still is super deep into falun gong. he ended up mc-ing a few shen yun performances and i went to several performances with my parents. i don't know if i didn't notice it or they just weren't doing it at the time because it was when Shen Yun was starting out way back when i was in high school, but i didn't notice any propaganda for falun gong or anything against the chinese government. though when i got to college they started putting in these bits about falun gong members being killed by the evil CCP except then the chinese gods came down to smite them while taking the falun gong people to heaven. even my dumb rear end could recognize this as propaganda and i decided i didn't want to see it anymore. neither did my parents because the tickets were getting more and more expensive lmao. it's definitely a cult and my uncle can't ever go to china again because the last time he went, he got deported for protesting against the chinese government and they won't give him a visa. it sucked a lot because it meant he couldn't attend his dad's funeral when he died. on the other hand, falun gong is definitely against homosexuality and mixed race people and gently caress that. he got into falun gong when i was really young because it would apparently help with his health because he was really sick and they couldn't figure it out. i guess daily meditation and eating better/cutting out sugar out of your diet would work, which is what he did but he attributes it all to falun gong. he also told me he could levitate while meditating so i'd always sneak in to check on him even though i wasn't supposed to do that to see it for myself, but he was always sitting on the ground. he also sent his daughter to a shen yun boarding school when she was little where she learned traditional chinese dancing and wanted to join the shen yun troop and she was honestly really good. she actually placed first in some US dancing nationals in high school but she didn't meet the height requirements for joining the troupe and so she got rejected. my cousin is doing fine, she just graduated a few weeks ago from college and she's actually glad she didn't join shen yun now because she's embarrassed at how much of a meme it is now - someone else had the shen yun dancer glued to their cap at her graduation. she still wishes she could dance professionally (she studied communications for her major) and doesn't regret learning classical chinese dancing, but she wishes she'd decided to focus on ballet since she would had have more options on where to go for college versus the only one she had for the other. anyways for christmas my uncle gave everyone either a trump coin or something from the shen yun store which comes in boxes that literally have 'shen yun is good' printed on the outside and inside. Like 5 years ago I got tickets to Shen Yun from work not knowing what it was beyond "chinese dance company" and it was alright You know, right up until the part where it gets extremely weird and overtly anti-communist and starts peddling straight up falun gong propaganda That was about the moment that I realized that I worked for a cult, lol (I probably can never go to mainland china now) Also they literally made us watch a movie about falun gong organ harvesting at work
