I do miss the goons.txt and jpg threads just for collecting all of the weird poo poo goons said and did. The goon sagas thread and the funny quotes thread mostly serve the same purpose now just with less hostility I guess in a way it sort of predicted social media and the idea of digging up everything a person has ever said or done and holding them accountable, but in 2019 that's less "this guy has a fairly embarrassing photo of himself on his MySpace" and more "this guy thinks Hitler did nothing wrong"

I'm not going to lie, I loving LOVED Helldump. I lurked Helldump faithfully (it was a lot like lurking the zaurg/Knyteguy/Blue Story threads if they were longer, more varied, and in much more numerous) and I'm pretty sure I read every single thread in there from start to finish. That said, I understand why it was closed and was never bitter about that decision. It's kind of like the forums grew out of it at the same time as I did. Also, there was something oddly satisfying about the era when the Helldumpers started turning on each other, because you'd sloooowwwwly come to realize that the Helldumpers were just as Helldumpable as the Helldump-ees (see: Boniface).

helldump was very funny for its first year or so but got too obsessive and dark. the best thing about it was collecting funny posts from the forums and thankfully fyad is just barely allowed to carry on that tradition, so we can find out about posts like the one from a few weeks ago when a steroid goon asked if cumming in his girlfriend’s rear end could make her sick

That's the thing -- FYAD might occasionally do Helldump-esque stuff, but Helldump was a lot...cleaner, if that makes sense. For the most part, the posts were well-defended and contained tons of (mostly hilarious) evidence, and people's comments on those post were coherent and on-topic. It was just less cluttered altogether, even in the era of signatures, and imho it helped that the background wasn't pink.

They eventually setup forums for this Wiki... the CWCki Forums. It eventually evolved to be about trolling / bullying / harassing basically anyone, and the name changed to Kiwi Farms. At some point a lot of them began to realize how horrible it was to harass a mentally disabled man, regardless how much of a creep they observed him to be, and began trolling and harassing people who troll and harass Chris Chan.

I had a Helldump thread about me once (It could have been FYAD). I posted a few pictures in a "show your gaming setup" thread and from there I would get random posts on my Social Media at the time or messaged on AIM. I don't remember too much harassment just random messages sometimes. I like to go back to my old youtube account and see if the comments are still there. But now it looks like only a few accounts survived. most of the messages were like this and usually made me laugh more than anything: YouTube Comment posted:Urm. Please keep your voice down. I was there when Helldump was founded (this would have been 2007) and honestly it really was a product of the times for SA. At the time we had a LOT of lovely posters running around GBS and the subforums and I'm not talking people you find annoying or disagree with. We had people with some seriously hosed-up views of the world (like racists and pedophiles) who just plain creeped you out whenever they went on a tangent. If they were truly lovely people or had serious undiagnosed, untreated or unmedicated mental health disorders will forever be a matter of debate. But the fact of the matter is we had people who talked about "it's cool I find this six-year old anime girl attractive because she is actually a 10,000 year old witch" and actually MEANT it. At the time it wasn't bannable to be creepy (it really is now) so these people would run around the forums with no self-awareness just creeping (or even freaking) people out and never picking up on it or getting argumentative about it. So the admins decided to fix this by making Helldump which was a call-out forum for those lovely posters as everyone has stated. At first, it was good but that was because posters were targeting all the right people (again, product of its times yada yada). The LegoRobot thread was the first Helldump thread I followed in real-time and it is glorious because I remember how much of a narcisstic rear end in a top hat he was (and a pedophile as the thread found out). There were other threads like Two Worlds as well. But, like has also been said it went downhill fast. The threads started becoming about "this guy disagree with me on D&D" and would scrape the absolute bottom of the barrel for his "poo poo posts" which were nothing. Helldump got clogged bad with those threads and I left because it was getting stupid and petty. I wasn't there when it became a doxx-fest with people who spend WAY too much time online (to the point where reality is ill-defined) threatening people over real and/or perceived sleights. It just became a walking liability because the day would come when some goon would shoot-up his university or something and it would get traced back here (kinda what happened with 8chan). Like all inquisitions, helldump didn't stop once they'd rooted out the people they were intended to drive away. With legitimate targets and grievances gone, it had to make up new ones to justify it's existence.
